Metro won't start after hot

Hi,
I'm new to Metro's (so don't hold that against me).
I have a '97 GEO Metro LSi 1.3L with 93,000 miles that starts and runs fine after it sets for a while (3 or more hours). If I try to start it up after 15-20 min's, it won't start. Acts like it's out of fuel. If it starts, it runs about 45 sec's and starts falling on its face. I have to release the fuel pressure with the gas cap, and trigger the fuel pump about (5) times. Sometimes it just won't start and I have to let it set.
I can hear the relay click and the fuel running everytime I turn the key. When it does start, I can run it WOT to 60 mph and it never bogs.
I'm guessing the fuel pump is getting ready to go. Any help IS appreciated. Thanks !!!

Sounds like a starter problem.

How old is your battery?

Are the connections to the battery, ground to engine and starter connections tight?

Also, check the back of the intake manifold to make sure those ground wires are tight too, they affect the fuel pump.

I would suggest that you have the battery and charging system tested. If they are ok, remove the starter and have it bench tested at an auto parts store.

Welcome to your new forum, SunfireSSR! :coffee

Another item to check is the catalytic converter. See if it starts and runs better with the front O2 sensor removed or you can drop the cat./pipe from the exhaust manifold by removing the two bolts.

You are getting fuel because this can and will start and run up to 60 mph.

The connections 96Geoman are referring to are:

Dont believe he is having a starter problem. I think he is saying the engine is cranking but not running. Is your check engine light on? Fuel pumps are usually the other way around. They will not start when cold but if you ever get it to start then after it gets hot it will start pretty easily until it sits overnight. Next morning hard to start again. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks Guys, and thanks for the welcome too. No error colds, and the MIL light is only on until the car starts and runs.
I will try the O2 sensor removal. If it tells the engine its rich at startup, the pcm may be dropping the fule off ?

no

get a can of starter fluid , next time it show that symptom , remove the air filter top and squirt starter fluid in the OPEN throttle body
start the engine
if it starts and stalls right away , you have probably got a bad injector , see the other thread with the test procedure s for

TESTING to CONFIRM bad injector

test
do not guess

Is not this engine a multi-point injection engine?

Okay, Tested for injector with Gasoline. (I don't like using Starter Fluid). The injector did not pulse. Replaced injector (BOSCH 661) with BOSCH 665. Runs all the time now. But, performance dropped off. According to waht I've read on the internet, these (2) injectors have the same specs. This one is slow building up speed. Anyone know why ???

And again, thanks to ALL of you !!!

take a look at the link: http://www.witchhunter.com/injectordata1.php4

click on the side feed injectors and look at the 661 compared to the 665, the 661 flows 620 cc and has a .8 ohm rating, the 665 flows the same but a 1.1 ohm rating. i dont know what that means for perfomance but there seems to be a difference

Thank You for finding that for me. I may get a 661 and replace the 665 now that I know the difference and that the new ijector fixed my problem. Thanks Again !!!
