SO i have a 96 hatchback and a 91 hatchback. both 3cyls 5 speeds. I also have a wrecked 96 1.3 auto sedan. I'd like to swap the 1.3 into one of my hatchbacks. What all is needed to do swap. and which should i swap into?? thanks

Swap to the 96, less converting to do. Normally you have to swap engine, mounts, harness, and computer. I only own Mark 2's (89-94 body style) So I can't tell you for certain, but conventional wisdom says swap everything I have listed. you will also need a 1.3 litre flywheel for manual trans, and larger 1.3 l clutch. 3 cyl clutch will not hold the 4 cyl. :thumb

Does the wire harness for the 4cyl plug into my instrament panel?

Good bye

It is pretty involved, the tranny has to move closer to the drivers side frame rail. The tranny mounting brackets are different and the mounting hole in the frame is in a different spot. The axles are different lengths and the shifter support rod is different. I went the other way in a 95 I bought a complete 5-speed donor car so I had a pattern and all the parts. I might have most of the 4-cylinder-5speed stuff you need though. It is all in a big pile in the "Metro" parts shed.

I picked up a five sleed 1.3 so it should be easier. I'm trying to find if the 96 wire harness will plug into the 91 gauge cluster.

I doubt it.

If you are experienced enough you can make it work. The 96-96 swap will be much easier. The 4-cylinders only came in Suzuki Swifts before 95. So none of the brackets are a guaranteed fit. It is a generational thing the 89-94 cars are physically a different sized car than the 95-01 cars. If your parts car is a 95+ the axles will be the right length ETC.

I am not worried about mechanical fittment. I know that in 94 they had same dash as the 95-00. And the 94 wire harness and 91harness are interchangeaable.

uh-uh. the dash wiring is not alike, the harnesses are not alike.

if you want to do it, you'll have to match and splice wiring. even the ecu mounting location is different.

not to say that you can't do it, others have, it'll just take skill and determination. :hmm

Wiring diagrams are in the Factory Service Manual. '96 to '96 swap will be the easiest. (cough) That is a lot of work.
