I am no gear head, but I am a fast learner and am thinking about re-doing the bottom of the motor myself and buying a re-built head. What sort of time frame we lookin' at?

If it were me, i'd set a weekend aside. Depends on your skill set, tools, etc.

Yeah, I can borrow the tools from my family. Thinking of just buying a rebuilt head (around $250 online). What is your opinion of rebuild kits available online such as http://compare.ebay.com/like/250529197721?var=bingv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&rvr_id=223878907628&crlp=1_263602_325002&UA=WXI8&GUID=3647a8e812f0a47a4484bd74fecacc13&itemid=250529197721&ff4=263602_325002 , from Mullet's tutorial, doing the bottom half doesn't seem too technical (heads maybe a diff story, hence why I would just buy a rebuilt one). Of course, things that don't seem hard usually end up being so later on :-/

Really, none of it is "hard". Annoying, maybe, but not "hard"

When you pull the head, you'll see if you need valves or not. With such even numbers I don't think you will.

well I am getting a dignogstic test at the mechanic on Monday (for free since I know him). Perhaps its the timing or anotehr issue but I doubt it. If he tells me the Geo is ready to :shit out on me I will know I have a real project. Sounds kind of fun actually, I have always wanted to do this and since I got her so cheap and have another vehicle, I can take my time. " I guess if I have to rebuild a motor this is about the best motor you can learn on. I will be sure to docment it for you all. Johnny said you can leave the motor in to rebuild the bottom half. Would you recomend this? I can see it saving a ton of time taking the motor out.
