Wow! I've never had one smoke for very long at all, if any. Did you get oil or something inside your exhaust system? Maybe? |

Sit back and think about this. Why is it smoking? Is it white smoke or blue smoke? Two things come to mind. One you did the rings wrong- upside down or placed the gaps at the incorrect angle to one another, and secondly, your head gasket is bad, or you didn't tighten the head down tight enough. Don't start throwing things just yet, just think about what you might have done incorrectly. Did you reboar the cylinders and use standard size pistons? |

on exhaust... Last engine work I did I got oil into the exhaust pipe, smoked till it all burned off. You checked for the oil restrictor in the block, did you confirm the valve seals are seated fully? and when you put the rings in did you look for the little letter on the top surface of the rings when installing and space the gaps according to the diagram?

Pull the transmission. You were going to service that thing anyway, weren't you? Or did you?

pressure plate-standard transmission flexplate-automatic transmission pressure plate contains the clutch disk which makes/breaks the contact between the motor/transmission flexplate is bolted to the motor(crankshaft)AND bolted to the transmission(torque convertor) pressure plate does not contain a ring gear.flexplate does contain ring gear(for starting purpose) |

150 is the low service limit on your compression not to throw another wrench in the works but that's by the manual. I'm surprised no else mentioned it . but it could be your gauge i would try another meter |

yeah,my book says 156 psi,but i've had them run fine with only 110 psi....i do have a cam&gear in it.that might make a difference.gauge is newer, maybe the 4th time its been used. my flexplate arrived today, going to try and get motor out tonight. PA might be a little far for me to get a motor.....shipping/customs might kill me......thanks for the offer! |
