Bought my first geo, a 1995 base model 4 door, the guy I bought it from has taken the fuel injection parts off of it as well as the valve cover, and snipped a few wires in the process, I was wondering if anyone out there knows which Geo 3 cylinders interchange, and maybe what parts are different between the years. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! |

All the G10 engines are the same, with minor differences. The most needed change for your 1995 is the engine block. There is an additional boss for mounting the air conditioning bracket. If you don't have AC, any G10 block will work. Timing belt gears differ - 1989-1993, 1994-1995, 1996 and after. Oil pump & oil pan - 1989-1995, 1996 and after. Valve cover - 1989-1992? or is it '91. 199x whenever they changed it and after. Taller on later models. Distributor - the early models used a vacuum advance EGR - not installed on early models Intake manifold - no EGR passages on early models. Throttle Body - I hope you have the one that came with the car. Lots of differences depending on year, manual or automatic in the early years, 1996 and after is completely different. Timing belt cover - Same 1989 through 1995. If you can find an unmolested Geo like yours, get a camera and take 1000 pictures. Get a Factory Service Manual. www.gmpartsgiant.com has listings for parts for your car. Enter your VIN, and they will narrow it down for you. Post pictures here on the GMF. We like pictures. And videos. Someone will chime in with an aswer. Maybe even a correct answer! Welcome to the GMF Forum! |

I think it was only the 1991 that didn't have EGR from what I have seen. |

My 95 4-door came with a 1.3, but now it has a 1.0. I thought all 4-doors after 94 came with 1.3's. |

Thanks for all the help!! I don't have the original throttle body, and am learning that maybe a good deal isn't such a good deal sometimes. It definitely has a 3 cylinder in it and is a four door, I'm wondering if maybe someone did a transplant and realized they didn't have the pieces. On the hunt now for a 95 metro for more parts. |

OooooH. A 1.0L in a '95 four door. That's going to hurt because the 4 dr is heavier than the 2 dr. If you are looking for FE you should keep the 1.0L but lower the tranny so it can at least get off the line. If you don't care about FE or speed by all means keep the 1.0L and put a 3.52 tranny in it. But be warned it will SUCK going up hills. |

I tried a 3.8 ratio tranny and a 3-tech econo cam with a +10 gear in the 95 4-door for a year or so. The car got high 40's in the winter and low 50's in the summer but was under powered. Before I gave this car to my oldest daughter I installed a stock cammed 1.0 and a 4.1 tranny. The car drives fine now kind of like an xfi. The car still gets mid 40's year round, and my 15 year old grandson can't wait to get his license. |

Okay, thanks again for the help, turns out the car I bought isn't a 1995, it's a 92, I scored a complete engine out of donor 1989 LSi with an automatic for $50 , everything looks about right, we'll see, hope to pull and swap next week, I'll keep you posted on what happens.
