This XFI G10 had 149,000 miles when it developed a knock, I then parked it. It's been a few weeks since parking it. I pulled the engine on the Friday night and disassembled yesterday. Piston #2 was dead, the skirt on one side was gone as well as the rings. Found all the pieces down at the screen on the oil pickup. The crank looked great as well as the cylinders, I was amazed. Even all the bearings looked fantastic. It was really cool to see the 'gapless' ring used on these, wish I could rebuild it with 1 new XFI piston and new rings. I'll be ordering the standard rings and pistons and standard bearings. Big advantage to these little engines with low hp and torque, very little wear. The cam looked great as well as the valves. I'll have the valves and head freshened up. There were 2 lifters that were stuck so I'll disassemble and clean all of those up as well. Can't wait to get her back together.

Thanks to the info and experience on this forum, I think it's under pretty good control. The knowledge all of you share with everyone is absolutely invaluable.

You might be able to find an XFi piston with some our friends here that sell used Metro parts. Have you tried Samp or PA fixer? Heck the Mullet may have on too.

lol, If there was a "governmentforum" instead of a "geometroforum", or in addition too... We could all become president with the awesomeness of this site :P

I have everything ready to go back in to the engine bay now and just realized I forgot to put that stupid little ball valve in the oil passage between the block and head. Is it worth tearing it all back down to put that back in? Can anyone confirm what actually happens when this isn't in there?

YES if its not in there you'll be burning oil in 10 minutes, it keeps the flow of oil to the head down.

Did that myself, had to take the head back off and put it in.

Important note!

Have you already torqued down the head? If you have then you need a new head gasket and new head bolts (unless you purchased reusable bolts).
