Hey guys I was looking for something to do and the woman was wanting to learn about a engine. So I decided to tear one of the motors that I have down. I have gotten it all apart except I can not get the crank gear bolt off, so I just took the crank out with the oil pump. Any tips on getting it off. I tried just about everything even putting a lil heat on it. The next question is where is the best place to get a rebuild kit. I am wanting to do every thing like, valves, rings, bearings, oil pump, water pump, and gaskets Any tips would be great. |

$233 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Geo-Metro-Pontiac-Chevrolet-1-0L-G10-Engine-Rebuild-Kit-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZMakeQ3aGeoQ7cModelQ3aMetroQQhashZitem3cb537124fQQitemZ260738323023QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Pick up a quality head gasket, the one that comes in the kit is not spectacular, felpro's are usually good. Pickup valves from 3tech (stainless steel) You should have taken the crank bolt out while the engine was in the car. there's red threadlocker on it, so either lots of heat, or clamp it in a vise and get a BIG breaker bar. |

Do you still have all the old main bearings? Install them with the crank back into the block. Jam a piece of wood (small piece of a 2x4) between a crankshaft counterweight and the side of the block, locking the crankshaft in place. This will keep the crank from moving. Now hit it with an impact wrench or secure the block and use a big ol' breaker bar. |

Bolt the flywheel back on the crank, stand the crank up and hold the flywheel still while using an impact wrench on the bolt. You may have to heat the bolt up first. |

I had done that!! I put all the main bearings and I took the handle of my dead blow hammer and wedged it in between the crank and block. And had my 450 foot pounds of torque impact on the thing!!!!! Even tried with a big breaker bar with a pipe. Not my hammer looks like and s . I didn't kno wht else to do. |

As a last resort, take it to a machine shop. |

Yeah, might have to take it to a machine shop or use the smoke wrench (torch) then. |

To be honest I've never heard of an oil pump failure with the G series engine. I would weigh my options like this: old pump: Japanese built has high mileage new pump: Chinese built (most likely) no mileage Kind of a tough call because you don't want to swap out the pump down the road... but is the new pump the same quality? Hmmm, it's a head scratcher. Me? I'd just go with a new one if it was in my rebuild kit, or reuse the old one if it didn't. |

Hook it all up and use a good 17MM socket and breaker bar and use the starter as a last resort. Please note, this can be dangerous. |

See some of the kits come with the oil pump is like 50 bucks. I just didn't kno if they were common to fail. And some kits come with pistons I was just gonna reuse the old ones. |

Now a broken piston is a (somewhat) common thing. |
