How is everyone today.I changed my timing belt yesterday and could not find a mark on the crank sha ft to line up so here is what i did.I lined the cam up with its mark and took a striaght edge and lined up the crank.I put the plastic cover on and the crank pulley and the white mark was dead on 0.Did i do this right. It seems to run good the way it is.Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks |

Not really sure how you used the straight edge. Or what was used as a reference. The Crank Sprocket Mark is pretty vague. Just a little dot lined up with the crank key. ![]() (I painted the dot for better reference) The Cam Sprocket is just a scribe line. Notch in Valve cover is the alignment mark. ![]() Yours may look different, but the principle is the same. Sounds like you may have gotten lucky. If it runs the same, or better than before, you're probably good to go!

thanks for those pics. That looks similar to mine but where that notch is there is a bolt in the way.I must have got it right or it would run like crap right? It starts right up and actualy seems to run smoother. The old belt had alot of play and missing teeth.Im glad i looked at it.I will be going from slc ut to glendive mt,then to rapid city sd and back to slc.About 1700 mile round trip.I think my car will be ok.I gave it a tune up about a year ago (Wires, plugs, cap, rotor and pvc. Recently i put the E-3 plugs in it,new air filter.new feul filter.New rear brake shoes,New timing and alternator belts ,fresh synthetic oil, brand new pirelli 14"tires on 14" rims and new cat and muffler. The front and rear joints seems to be in good condition and it steers real straight down the road.I think it will make it just fine. What do you guys think? |

I think you should do fine. If your engine is not pinging or running rough in the lower rpms before the shift light then you are fine on the timing belt. Just for security, I carry a spare timing belt and alternator belt in the car. Old belts but good in emergency. Might clean the distributor posts and rotor if there is any build-up on them. Clean some grounds, carry some tools, fluids and duct tape with you and you should do fine.
