Normally you should have no problems doing the switch. Use Mobil 1 or whatever brand you prefer and use 5W30 or 5W20 oil. If you are going to switch to synthetic for extended drain intervals use a quality filter like Wix or Baldwin.

If your going to run extended drain intervals. I'd also suggest using a larger filter than the stock size. See this thread, http://geometroforum.com/topic/1219569/.

Purolator PureOne and Bosch Filters are also pretty good filters, and are a little easier to find than Wix or Baldwin filters depending on where you live.

Hi guys i just bought a 2000 geo metro and it has 150,000 miles , i have synthetic oil in all my cars , can i do the switch to synthetic with this type of mileage and if so witch type. Car has no oil leaks
use a
ACEA A3 B3 - A3 B4 5w or 0w30 synthetic or
Mobil one 0w40

the best oil for the price is the Castrol SLX LL03 5w30 only available at VW or Audi dealers for between 7.99 and 10.99 per liter depending on your position on the parts buying food chain

other great choices are
(these can be purchased on sale at autojunk or UNadvanced auto or wallymart for around 5.oo to 6.oo per quart depending on the sale cycle )
Mobil one 0w40
Castrol GC euro specification 0w 30 NOT the castrol 0w30 that is NOT european specification

DEXOS1 oils that are 5w30 are also good choices BUT NOT as good as what is above
these include Mobil 1 5w30 and have the ACEA specification A1 B1- A5 B5 -
DEXOS1 is the current GM specification oil for the Geo Metro , Chevrolet Metro.

alleged synthetic oils such as ROYAL PURPLE with out any specifications are good for nothing and should only be used as a starter fluid for your barbecue imho

read the oil bottle before purchase
read more at the BITOG forums

take it back , get a refund
use Mobil one 0w40 if you must use Mobil one

Mobil one 0w40 tests as 5w30 in use and it is ACEA A3 B3 - A3 B4
or use Castrol GC 0w30 it is ACEA A3 B3 - A3 B4 , which is a far superior product than Mobil one 0w 30 and they are the same price

Mobil one 0w30 is not even DEXOS1 rated .... a very poor choice .

go to BITOG forums , study and learn

do you notice a pattern

have you noticed that pretty much any oil with
ACEA A3 B3-A3 B4 specification in a viscosity of 0w30 or 5w30 or 0w40 will be fine for your car ?
and any oil that does not have those specifications will not be as good of a lubricant and will not provide service equal to the oils that do have the
ACEA A3 B3 - A3 B4 specification ?

Mobil one 0w40 (which does happen to have ACEA A3 B3 - A3 B4 specification ) is a fine choice as well and , as per Blackstone labs Mobil one 0w40 tests as a 5w30 after being used in an Audi A4 .

since you have had your question answered many times already in this one thread ...
i strongly suggest that you go to the BITOG forums and study and learn about lubricant s , now . do not stop studying and learning about things you have questions about
ever . and do try to remember that which you have already learned .

It seemed pretty thin to me, compared to the standard 5w30 that I had been using, before my oil genetic code edjumacation. :news
