Geo Metro flooding and won't start; Fuel Injection issue

Hi, I have a 93 Geo Metro 3 cyl with throttle body injection. It had been running fine but recently stopped. As soon as I turn on the key (not turning it over yet), it sprays fuel out the injector into the throttle body for a few seconds. You can hear one of the relays click and then it quits (assuming the fuel pump relay). If you crank the engine over, it sprays continuously. If I unplug the connector going to the injector, it stops spraying fuel. I had my wife turn it over with that disconnected and I can get it to start. Then if I momentarily reconnect the plug, it will spray fuel and I can keep making contact momentarily and keep it running. I replaced the TPS (had an issue with it last year and cleaned it, I thought maybe it was bad so I replaced it... DOH). I also replaced the injector with another used one. It acts the same way. I believe it is something electrical holding the injector open but have no idea where to look. Maybe the fuel inj relay that is next to the fuel pump relay?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Hello, welcome to the forum. Check for a restricted fuel return line. Also connect a fuel pressure guage to it and check fuel pressure. Pinch off the return line with visegrips and see if the fuel gauge holds steady constant pressure after turning on the switch. Have you checked to see if the car is firing at the spark plugs? Not to say you are wrong about the fuel problem, just do not be so quick to say that is the problem.

yes, it fires fine at the plugs. If I disconnect the plug going to the injector, it stops dumping fuel and I can get it to start (plenty of residual fuel). IT is a fuel problem. I am going to check the wiring harness along the back of the engine and make sure it did not get pinched or rub through the insulation. I'll also check the return line and pressure thanks.

either the injector is stuck open
or the signal side of the injector harness is grounded

see the T Pin article in the electrical section

after reading the article
stick a T Pin in one of the injector harness terminals as described , try to start the car , it will have
positive or negative with respect to the battery if it has positive
connect to the other pin

if that connection is grounded all the time
disconnect the ECM all connectors , re test the T Pin at the injector signal , if it is still grounded , your harness is grounded somewhere between the ECM and the injector

Thanks all! I found the problem. One of the wires that goes to the injector (under the metal plate on the top of the throttle body) had gotten pinched and was grounding out. Fixed that, changed the oil, aired up the tires, and it should be good as new!
