i just got a 89 and it shakes when i go over 35mph what could that be.\
also the temp guage goes straight to hot when on for a lil bit is that a possible head gasket leak or is that normal. white smoke is being produced from the exhaust im assuming that is a head problem correct.

is there coolant in the resovoir or radiator? Hopefully since your up in fontana(Montana?), maybe it's just steam and not white smoke, if it is sounds like a head gasket then. Will need more info about the overheating, i.e. is there enough coolant? Hopefully you don't warp a head by driving it overheated.

Top off coolant.
Run car to operating temp and leave cap off to burp system.
Top off and put cap on.
Drive car for 15 minutes.
Low coolant and no visible leak? - Head gasket.

Welcome to your new forum, jrob08! :coffee

The shaking could be a bad tire, unbalanced tires, loose lug nuts, sticking caliper, the rack and pinion steering, maybe the engine mounts and probably something I missed.

Depending on how much experience and tools you have you could jack up the front end (safely support it on jack stands) and see if the wheels are OK and grab the tires/wheel and see if there is movement in the wheel tire in-and-out. Check the rotation and see if any joints are loose. The worst case is frame rot around the "horns" where the half shaft (axles) go through the frame. :-/

Report back on the coolant and if any loose/bad suspension parts are found, please

There is a Fontana in Pennsylvania, Kansas, Wiscowsin and California. :smackface
