I have a 1990 G10 geo metro head I would like to clean out. I have never taken out oil galley plugs and don't want to mess up the hex heads. Do they need to be heated up. Are they installed with locktite.
I need to buy a 5mm hex driver for my breaker bar and was wondering if that will do the job or do I need a impact wrench.Am also trying to find how many pounds of torque to use to re-install the plug.
Thanks for any help
better safe than sorry

Sean,

I use a propane torch to heat the area around the plug. An allen wrench/socket on a 8" 3/8 drive breaker bar or ratchet will be adequate. Tap the allen wrench socket into the plug with a small hammer. A slight tighnening motion of the plug will help to break it loose. I use Loctite PST (liquid teflon) on the threads for reinstllation. Torque? I'm sure there is one, but, I usually tighten the plugs until they stop turning. It's a tapered thread.

Thanks Geo Glenn for the fast reply. I will try what you suggest. I was thinking this was the way to go about it but was not sure enough
to attempt it and take a chance on stripping the plug head out.
Thanks again
Sean
