I have a loud ticking sound under the hood of my 1996 geo metro 4 cylinder. when i turn on the key and it idles there is no ticking sound but if i rev the motor you can hear it, LOUD, like maybe a cards being shuffled, that flipping sound. I have seen no smoke, and it seems to have power.
The ticking sound, sounds like it is on the side of the motor by the pullys. but i am not really sure. any help would be wonderful. maybe a nother moter would be wise.
i'll try to post a video for you toaorrow.

Welcome to the forum. Inspect all your belts for starters. Maybe one has shreaded and is smacking something as it rotates. The video would help for sure.

There is a known rocker arm issue with this engine, you may need to clean the tiny lifters in the ends of the arms and/or adjust the gaps. Being that it is occurring when revved I'd guess you have a lifter collapsing, but not 100% on that.

I think i found the problem, This screw looks like it has unthreaded, but i am not sure if it should be that way. THe screw is down by the pulleys, should i tighten it back up, or what.
thanks

that should have a tensioner spring on it, and it SHOULD be sticking out:

thank you so much for showing me that pic, telling me what it was..... Do you see that screw on the side, what should be the bottom, right about the oil filter, The one in my car is bent, and twisted, looks like it may have been forced. I checked the arm rockers and they are fine. I wonder now if that bolt i was asking you about could be makeing something rattle, seeing as how is was twisted and bent.
