I just bought a 92 geo metro my first metro experiance! Fixed driver side window regulator passinger side mirror and got rear bumper from junk yard BUT I just can't understand why it won't run right! Problem is that when you put it in first gear at about 5 mph it acts like it lost power but if you push the pedel down it takes off again! It also does the same thing at about 20mph! Any ideas about what the problem is would be very much apprecaited.
I also want to thank the people that created this forum.

Welcome aboard Melvin! Very likely someone here will have more ideas than I. My first thought is that you may have a bad/worn spot in your TPS - do you see this "flat spot" in each gear? Secondarily how many miles on your metro? Manual or auto trans? Have you done a compression test? Good Luck!

Thanks for the responce, it has 5 spd manual and about 129,000 miles on it as near as I can tell and no I haven't done anything except what I already mentioned it runs ok if you avoid those rwo points in 1st and 2nd gear but it is a real pain sometimes if you want to go slow. I will inspect the tbi setup as you suggested. So thanks again!

Have you done a check on your vacuum system? aka made sure nothing is missing or unplugged :) It is sort of od that it doesn't do that in all gears, but then again, these metros DO hit their torque max around 3000rpm, and horsepower cap a decent bit higher than that, not sure if I'm understanding the problem right or wrong, but it may be that your engine is somehow exaggerating this torque cap.

Is it losing all power at 5mph in second gear? or is that 20mph in second gear? (I would hope you're not pushing to 20mph in first gear :P )

Welcome to the forum Melvin. I would start with a good seafoam treatment and careful inspection of all vacuum lines and sensors. Complete fuel system cleaner always helps too. If that doesn't help, then do a compression test and hope for good numbers. :thumb

Welcome to your new forum, Melvin! :coffee

This is a new-to-you car so the first thing I do is a full tune-up and inspection.

The Seafoam as Lil red metro suggests will help clean out the fuel system and Throttle Body. Click on; Seafoaqm maintenance

Unless it's obvious they are new, a set of plugs, plug wires, a distributor cap and rotor plus new air and fuel filter should generally improve performance. Do change the PCV valve. A good timing setting is 8 deg. BTDC and the oil should be a quality synthetic.

Clean all your grounds and wire connections. I like to use a Dremel tool w/wire brush. This would include the plug for the TPS as GeoRating suggests.
