I run full synthetic and it really helps with longevity.

What is the price per quart? Walmart has the 5 quart bottle for $24.50 here. |

Yeah what is the price? I didn't know costco carried it. I can only say that switching from 10w40 full synthetic to 5w30 full synthetic made my 3/5 feel and sound a WHOLE lot better. I'll never make the mistake of not going 5w30 or lower ever again O_o |

I use Mobil1 and always have. I don't care if it doesn't meet some spec that oil costing 3x as much does. It has never let me down and I can visually see the difference when looking into an engine that runs dino oil vs Mobil1. |

In my area Mobile1 0w40 costs the same as Mobile1 5w30. Where does this 3x the cost come from? |

I was making up the 3x value in a comparison between Mobil1 and Royal Purple (additional cost plus postage since some of us have to pay for shipping on Royal Purple). |

My 93 XFi has had Mobil 1 5w30 from the day it was bought. I bought it of my buddy and his grandparents bought it brand new in 93. I have since switched to 10w30 cuz it leaks less. But my motor runs as strong as ever right now. Its great. 45mpgs or more every tank. And here in western pa with all the hills and what not I could not be happier with the way it drives. So Mobil 1 is the way to go in my book. Love it. |

I always use the cheapest oil on the shelf becuase of the math. Cheap oil changes costs about 15 bucks. Full synthetic oil changes cost about 30 bucks. (when you do them yourself). So that is a savings of $15 per oil change. If you change your oil every 5K miles (I actually go 7500 in accordance with the owners manual), you will change your oil about 30 times every 150K miles. With cheapie oil, its now time to rebuild. Since you have been using cheapie oil, you have saved $450 in changes which just so happens to be about how much you will pay to rebuild your engine. So it ends up being awash. Do you think you will drive your car that long? I won't. My car already has 150K so why pay twice the cost for an oil change on an engine that is only going to last anouther 20K anyway? Don't get me wrong, I am all for taking care of your car. I only use full synthetic in my Mazdaspeed3 BUT I will never sell that car and expect that motor to last a long time. It will also be ALOT of money to rebuild that motor in 10 years when it has 200K on it and a smoking turbo. But for my Geo, I do not believe in spending more money then i need too...
