100,000 ft.lbs. Think that's too much?

How about 20 ft.lbs. I did mine last week and my torque wrench wouldn't get that low so I just screwed the nut back on to its original position--where the dents aligned with the axle stub indents.

Yeah, what Dayle said. :thumb Sitting right next to a Service Manual here . . .

What is the proper torque on rear axle nuts?

a) What Dayle1960 said.
b) 55 Newton Meters.
c) 5.5 Kilogram Meters.
d) 41 Foot Pounds.
e) All of the above.

Answer: e) all of the above. If answers b - d do not line up the previous indentation, then use answer a).

Oh, by the way, you're supposed to replace the nuts according to the Factory Service Manual. I never have, and I'm pretty sure Dayle1960 is also a re-user.

GG, are you calling me a re-user? Well I've only re-used those nuts about 10 times. The tab is getting pretty weak. It should last 2-3 uses. I like to live on the edge.

Swap them from side to side. This is what I did and a different part of the nut lines up that you can use.

Yes, really 41 FOOT Pounds. Right out of the Factory Service Manual. That's kinda sorta tight, but not quite into the white knuckle realm. :news

Torque them suckers any tighter than that and you'll twist something off!
