Copper Sprayin' the Head Gasket; Permatex copper Spray

I bought the evergreen gasket package and picked up some Permatex copper spray from AutoZone. The Head gasket appears to have a black coating on it and I am wondering if I need the copper spray?

Seems there is a concern about using this stuff on aluminum & since the gasket is coated already there may be a reason for not using it-

I used it with no problems on my head gasket. Personally I feel that it helps seal the oil and water passageways better than just compression alone.

How many coats did you spray? I would suspect both sides? How long to dry?

both sides, just until it was uniformly copper colored (maybe 2 thin coats) you don't have to wait to dry, it gets tacky almost immediately, and will stay that way.

Got 70 MPG?

You want to install it while tacky.

Is the copper stuff acceptable for all the gaskets? Waterpump, thermostat, etc.?

Will it cause huge problems trying to remove it next time?
