i was wondering , i been seeing a lot of head pictures taken appart in this forum and all the valves and pistons are full of carbon...... can i remove all my spark plugs and use something like a throttle body cleaner something that would remove carbon and spray it in there so the cleaner would pool in the pistons and spraying up towards the valves maybe cleaning them a bit?

Just get a bottle of seafoam and suck it down the brake booster until it stalls out. Let it sit 15-30 mins and repeat a few times that should help. |

Nothing is going to do a very good job. For a while I got on the Marvel Mystery Oil kick...but honestly I probably just wasted money on that stuff. Pull the head and clean the carbon the old way. |

if you remove the spark plugs and add a few ounces of MMO when the engine is hot and leave it alone overnight , the MMO will leak down past the rings and in some instances can help to remove carbon deposits in the oil rings .... it depends on how badly the deposits are caked in there --- nothing but MMO should be left in the oil and MMO really should not be left in the oil long , so if you do this it will help clean deposits off of the piston tops , but it will dilute the engine oil and the oil will need to be changed , as soon as you do it it will have zero to very little effect on exhaust valves seafoam sux , good for making smoke , little to nothing else |

I built a water injection system for one of my cars. The pistons looked brand new after a few weeks of steam cleaning while driving. |

Nothing is going to clean some of the g10 engines I have seen pictures of on this forum but removing the head and doing it by hand! |

Apples vs Oranges. Is steam cleaning your pistons every day for years on end better than spending 5 minutes cleaning with chemicals? I would think so. Is steam cleaning your pistons for three minutes better than running 3 cans of Seafoam on pistons horribly caked with carbon? I would think not. Steam cleaning is more of a long term task. I can be done for as little as $FREE or as much as $500 depending on how you want to approach it. If you want to do it for free just unhook one of your vac hoses, grab an empty beer bottle, fill it with tap water and suck it into the engine (small amount at a time). Spend 5 minutes doing this every day for a week and I bet your pistons start looking better. |

Got 70 MPG?

How are you doing your steam cleaning setup? I've done it at idle, but I think it would be more effective while driving instead... |

Do a search for these pumps (the video is my old setup): I sprayed while under boost. Idle would be fine too... |

Devil"s own alcohol injection is a common upgrade for GTPs. I was thinking more along the lines of taking a hose from the windshield washer plumbing and running it to the throttle body with distilled water in the resivoir only. |

or look for a ported vacuum port on the throttle body a vacuum source that never has vacuum at idle , but does have vacuum at 2k rpm and use that , so you are aDDING water at cruise , you have to regulate flow of water with a tiny orifice , a little bit is all you need |
