More pieces to the puzzle are found. This metro I bought from a dealership..... Anyway, its mine now, like I said before. Sooooo, while in to fix an oil leak (cam and crank seal), i loosened the 12mm tensioner bolt and water dripped out onto the crank gear. I checked the torque on the water pump, loose..... cam tensioner loose (pulled back to change belt, but not reset). Which retards the cam timing? Yah, I thought so. Like I said before, EVERYTHING I touch needs to be touched. More later... Mark |

When I change the timing belt and pull the belt the cam gear rotates a little due to tension of the valve springs. I note the direction and turn it back while installing the belt while making sure the marks align. Starting at TDC, compression stroke, is a good idea. Take a look at http://geometroforum.com/topic/2232748/1/?x=0#post166330 and there is a picture like this:![]() So the tensioner is good, but I find the spring pretty useless and I apply a Little more tension than the spring as I tighten the 12mm tensioner bolt. maybe use only two fingers, left hand, mild pressure. The important thing is timing marks and tight belt tension on the long span on the right between the two gears. Edited by Bad Bent, May 15 2011, 01:24 PM.
