My advice -

splurge and get a really, really nice and *comfortable* driver seat! If you're job is requiring you that kind of commute, you have every excuse to make it an ergonomic work expense :)

Thanks for all the input so far. I won't know if I will keep the '92 or part it out for some time yet. Today I'm going to look at a Kia Rio driver's seat with an armrest, adjustable lumbar, and adjustable bottom cushion angle. My previous car had Suzuki Esteem front seats, as I had a 150 mile daily commute back then. The main thing I didn't like about my '90 was the fact I could never get a good set of tires that would keep their balance, so I am thinking of taking the "free" '92 and putting in a late model 5 speed along with larger wheels and tires. I suspect the small rolling diameter of the 155R12's contributed to the wheel imbalance issues I had, that and the fact that there really isn't any such thing as a top quality 12 inch tire. I normally drove about 75-80 mph on the SoCal freeways then, and 3 hours daily of listening to the keys jungle and watching the steering wheel vibrate wasn't fun. My '99 hasn't given me any trouble with wheel vibration yet, but then again I haven't had it over 70 mph, since 5th gear doesn't work. (That's why the car was cheap)

I am the one on the left.

once upon a time I had Z rated tires on my first Metro..., go ahead and laugh. It would never go that fast.
