Greetings Forum!

I just joined up after searching the I-net for some electrical advice regarding my alternator change-up on my 1996 Geo Metro. It's a 4-cyl. we bought for $900 two years ago. It had 98K at the time.

A friend and I replaced the front half of the muffler and the front end. I just got new calipers and brake lines and put on the rest of the muffler.

The alternator problems I described in a different post and won't go into here, but now the Geo is tearing up the blacktop again and ready to haul the canoe once more.

Our friends refer to this car as "the egg." I love it though; it's paid for, now it only has 118K, it's good for someone like me who doesn't have a huge depth of knowledge about car repair. Plus, the Metro Forum is here! Can't go wrong with your advice, right?

Here's a shot of the canoe, which tends to dwarf the car. But if it ever flipped into a river, we'd be good to go.

Welcome to the forum! Glad to see someone else isn't afraid to haul things around larger than the car itself ;)

What are those little deals that go over the gunwales of the canoe in your photo? Seems like they'd protect the paint much more effectively than my "two pieces of wood" method

Nice LeoGeo! Ha!

Those are foam canoe pads, available at most outdoor stores (I got mine at REI up in the Cities). Real handy for hauling the canoe, but they can rip after a lot of use.

My wife and I were driving in 60 mph winds back in 2008 with the canoe. We drove up to Itasca, where we put in at the Mississippi headwaters--but it felt like the wind would pick the Geo right off the road a few times with the canoe up top.

Do you have to haul your Terry far or do you put in a few miles from your street?
