Hello all,

I've been consulting this forum so often as a guest, that I thought I would bite the bullet and become a member.

I bought a 1994 Pontiac Firefly last summer for $500 (it had 185K kilometres, which is about 110K miles). I tell people it's my mid-life crisis car, but the truth is that I love small cars, it reminded me of the car I learned to drive on (a 1979 Mazda GLC; does anyone remember those?), and I really wanted to drive a five-speed as a change from our other car.

Needless to say, I've sunk quite a bit of money in it since: it needed the the engine bolt replaced, the muffler needed to be repaired (THAT was pretty obvious!), it needed rear struts, and soon afterwards needed the emergency brake replaced. It obviously had been pretty neglected, and at first it was really hard to jam it into 5th gear (much looser now). It was also on its original timing belt (!) which I found out when I decided, to be on the safe side, to change it. I suspect it's on its original clutch as well, but there still seems to be lots of life left it in it (fingers crossed).

Several weeks ago the car started to lose power dramatically in the lower gears and I had to get it fixed when I couldn't even get up my driveway. Turned out it was a camshaft timing problem, which I had a good mechanic patch up, and it has been running fine since.

Maybe I'm crazy (the mid-life thing again), but I'm taking it out on a road trip in a few days, over the Rockies and to Saskatchewan and back (again, fingers crossed). Wish me luck!

Hey there and welcome. Super jealous that you have a Firefly. Those things are so hard to find...

They're pretty common up here in Canada -- esp. here in Victoria, where the winters are mild (not too much salt on the roads) and you see a lot of older cars. I wish someone (previous owner?) hadn't ripped off the little Pontiac arrowhead from the front, though!

Sorry, but I'm a bit lame about uploading pictures. Any easy way to do this from a flashdrive...?

Hoping this works (eh)... Sadly, my car is not as shiny as most of yours, but it's the classic blue colour!

Welcome!

What's up with the influx of people coming here in waves? A couple of months back it seemed that a bunch of women joined in a short period, now it seems to be FireFly owners from British Columbia?

classic blue my butt. Never saw a metro in THAT particular shade of blue. I LIKE IT. very close to the surf blue I want to use that is on the new dodge calibers. $4 gas tends to do that :-) (bring people here)

Glad you like the colour -- here I was thinking it was ordinary (it is pretty ordinary up here for Metros, Sprints and Fireflys). I've heard at least one other person asking how my Firefly can be a 1994, but that's what the manual says -- honest!

Here are specs for 1994 Firefly: http://www.auto123.com/en/pontiac/firefly/1994?carid=945100503
