No car is actively "dangerous", it could be "unsafe" in a wreck, but no car is "dangerous".

Uncontrolled explosives are dangerous.

:gp :lol

sidenote, don't forget to factor in cost of insurance on the extra car. it obviously won't impact the investment too much, but still..

congrats on the buy, and welcome to the forum!

Hi we were recently given a 1990 geo metro. Its a great little car and would be even better if we could drive it, but it wont pass emission test. Can anyone give suggestion on where to find help?

"You did what!!!!!" Hey guys new to the site, great site. Please help me prove to my wife that I made a wise investment. I dont want to hear my wife say those four little words that every man hates. "I told you so"
why don't you just grow some balls, then you could be man of the house and make all the decisions you want and not have your woman second guessing you (at least out loud)

haha just joking

not really though haha
...you aren't married, are you?

Quick update on the Metro: Did the basic Tune UP. Oil Change, Oil Filter, Spark Plugs and wiring, PCV Valve Distributor cap and ignition roter. Biggest fear was it not starting and leaving me stranded so I got new Battery and Starter. Old Battery was not correct Battery and was huge.

So then I went to get a Nevada Smog Test thinking I was good to go. The guy said he could not even start the smog test due to high idle. So after finding this site and reading Hayens manual, I determined new Idle Air Control Valve was needed. A mechanic at a shop said I also needed a new throttle body sensor. New TBS and IACV later I went to smog man today...

Good news, Idle RPMS went down from 1200 to about 900. Bad News, Still could not even test car. He told me it didn’t accelerate consistently therefore could not be tested. What the car is doing is, it accelerates fine when I press the gas and when I let foot off it decelerates fine too. Problem is, when I have foot on pedal like just trying to keep same speed, it does some funky accelerating thing kind of like if I was pumping the gas pedal. Only does this when I’m covering the gas pedal. (taking the slack out)

To add to all this after I installed the TBS and IACV I got a check engine light.

Taking car to the shop tomorrow am... I will update after

this section is for introspection only and not tech help. but since you haven't been moved- there is a permanent post on this site titled something g like "how I lowered my emissions level. I tried for an hour to find it for sammyboy yesterday and couldn't. ask admin where it is.

Taking it to a shop is good.

I would also take it to a different inspector.

Usually if you put a Metro on your insurance and tell them that it is your primary vehicle they will lower your premium since the repairs and value of the car is so cheap. Especially when you are going from a truck like a 2007 F-150 like you have.

unless you spend the fuel savings on the woman she'll never understand the arithmetic!!
No truer words were ever spoken :P

When I was 21 or so, I used to buy and sell cars on the weekends. Air-cooled VW's back in the 1980's, when some people were still using them as basic transportation in California. My girlfriend, later wife, used to complain about the time and money I'd spend on this hobby of mine. A little at first, then more and more. I laid out the model for her, but her eyes would just glaze over, all she saw was a check written for yet another car, see me working all hours and getting grease under my nails, and for what?

I made one particular great 'score', picked up a dead Beetle for $60 I think, had to tow bar it home. I got the look from her. The following day, I gave it a tune up and got it running, spent maybe a total of 8hrs on it, and sold it for $1000 a few days later.

To illustrate my point, (buy low, sell high, subtract initial purchase $ and parts, pocket the diff) I took her clothes shopping. Told her that half the proceeds were hers to spend as she wished. A couple days after that, she was helping me comb the newspapers for potential 'good deals'. We bought our first house a couple years later. Down payment was earned mostly from my side hobby. :thumb
