Ok so my metro collection has grown to 5. Decided to sell the odd man out my 1996 4cyl Auto. Im keeping the two 3/5's and two verts. So I put the thing up on craigslist. The most popular response is "wow 180k miles thats a lot". I'm like yea its 15 years old. that averages out to 12k per year. Not bad really. I just got rid of my Civic SI. I bought it in 2007 brand new off the showroom floor. When i sold it at the end of 2010 it had 125k on it. The only real mechanical issue with the thing is the driver side shaft seal leaks slightly. Then there are those who want me to act like a buy here pay here. Well when i change my name to capitol one I'll consider it. Then here is the kicker. I served in the Army. Every generation of my family has served. On my moms side we go back to the civil war. I know how sometimes we forget about what these men and women do and have done for us. But there are those who lie and take advantage of others selfless service. I had a guy email me about my Geo. Offered me 1000 plus one of his tool boxes and like 400 in tools. So really what does one do in this situation?????

dont take any slack from anyone trying to give you less than what you feel yr car is worth!! :banghead ...if it doesnt have anything wrong with it, then it should sell for a good amount...now unless you really want those tools, thats another story but id say keep the ad going till someone REALLY is interested in it... :news :deal
btw, my car is at just over 181,000 miles so its probably about the right mileage...mine is a 96 as well :D

Ignore the low ballers and keep advertising it. If it doesn't sell in a month, lower the price a bit. Also tell them that you know a guy that has 392,000 miles on his metro and he still uses it for his daily 100 mile commute and gets 50+ MPG.

Sorry forgot to clarify the rest of the story. The guy is a disabled Vet who has no real source of income. He has 1000 cash that he has saved plus 400 in tools so he can buy his son a car for college. I was asking 1500 for the car. Its just the whole disabled vet thing that gets me.

Low ballers are easy to handle... in fact i've been accused of that myself once or twice

I've got a 1995 4 cylinder, 4 door, 5 speed for sale. 142k miles.

I have turned down like 3 or more <800 dollar offers. I have it listed at 1800. I don't know what's going on but it's getting fucking annoying.

That said, you should advertise that the car actually gets 30 mpg rather than 40 mpg. The '96 1.3 automatic was only rated 30/34/32 and those are the old EPA numbers, which are certainly atainable, but higher than the new EPA numbers. If you sell it for $1,500 and the buyer comes back only getting 30 mpg, chances are they'll be pretty pissed.

Mine is not nearly as clean as yours. I'm just hoping the 5 speed aspect makes it worth it.

True it was the 96 5 speed listed at 39. My last tank i got 36 MPG so when i posted it i saw 39 listed and just ran with it. should have been more careful. But With that said when they ask what i get for mileage i do tell them its ranged from 30-36 depending on how its driven. (technically i was getting 26 till i found out my cat was killing my MPG's.) Only been getting 30+ for the last month

I have a friend who annoys the hell out of me when we go out for drinks off duty. He won't change out of his uniform! I know he does this because he likes getting free drinks from people who come up to him and thank him for his service.

We're soldiers, we did our job, we get paid fairly well (he's a major). We don't stand around and hold our hat out!

But not all veterans are well off. I understand this. Some guys need a break. If you need the tools, just verify and ask for his DD214 or VFW member card.

I have a guy coming by after work to look at her. The last guy pulled up in his escalade. He was like 6 ft 5 and was asking me how to tilt the steering wheel and where the seat controls were. I had to remind him dude its a geo. Well if this guy doesn't make an offer I'll call the vet and ask about his dd214. Some of us who have and are serving our country do need a break. Too many fall thru the VA cracks. (not slamming the VA)

A lot of vets are proud and don't want to take what is available to them. Some just don't know what is available.

I don't like it when people scam regardless of vet status.

There was a guy in a wheelchair who used to panhandle at the top of the escalator at Penn Station NYC. I noticed he wore a VDU uniform with my old unit's patch, (25th Infantry Div).

I asked him "when was the last time you were in Schofield?" He gave me a blank look.

You know, Schofield, the home of the 25th ID. I said. He answered "Uh, Oh yea. Scofield, I was there during "Nam".

By the way he said it, I realized he had no idea what I was talking about. then I realized the uniform shirt was all wrong for that era as we didn't start using BDUs till the 80s and he was about MY age. Which would have meant he went to Vietnam at age 5!

Then, there's my friend the mooch as mentioned who tried to play the poor veteran and get freebies from people. I'm disgusted with him as an officer and no longer associate with him.

Scammers make us all look bad. Again, there are some who need a break, but I'll verify first.

The guy in the article should be transported to Iraq and just dumped there!

I don't know how nice your auto is, but for most people the auto geo is a deal breaker. I tried to sell an auto geo 2 years ago and could barely get $800 for it. I don't think $1000 plus tools is a bad deal, but its not mine nor have I seen it.
