Hello fellow Geo owners.
It's been a long battle but I finally got my car to me. And you read correctly, this is in fact my very first car ever, so I've been pampering it a lot.
I bought my 1995 Metro for $300 from a co-worker of my mother's but unfortunately it sat around for a few months due to the key being stuck in the ignition and no one getting it out (that and it needed the proper tags and decals). I've been driving it around since last Thursday and I'm happy to know that my first car sips fuel and is a manual.
Oh and by the way, this is Sean:

At the moment, he's got 156,729 miles on it and the cassette player doesn't work. Also there's a bit of a transmission issue where I can't downshift from 3rd to 2nd. Til I get that fixed, I go from 3rd to 1st then to 2nd. Sean's been really fun to drive and I hope to stick around and make sure Sean has plenty of fellow Geo buddies on the road.

Do not go from 3rd to 1st.
Double clutch to go from 3rd to 2nd.

Dang, even Mary Kay has been hit by the recession. They used to give away pink cadillacs to their top sales people. Now they give away green metros. :lol

Welcome aboard. I learned to double clutch and "rev match" to downshift my 92 since it has a bad 2nd gear synchro. Practice makes perfect :thumb

Welcome to the forum

whats wrong with going 3-1-2? u don't actuall push it in. u just go up before down and it speeds up the synchro to get it into 2nd gear? I've never double clutched any geo I've owned and they all have that problem?? and thats just how i get into 2nd? well i always try going into 2nd first.. so i go 3-2-1-2. after it turns habitual you don't even notice it..? am i hurting something?

You wear out the first gear syncro. It too will eventually go bad.

It comes quickly, once you get it down you start to understand why, then it comes naturally. Right now you can reduce your 3rd to 2nd downshifts by half, simply by not doing it, you don't need if half as much as you think you do. Using 1st to compensate for a worn 2nd will have 1st shot in no time at all, that's a bad way to get around it.

(edit for rudeness)
Oops, Welcome!
