So it looks like I only have 5 posts after a year and a half. I look like a perma-lurker.

Actually, I have done a lot of lurking, but I didn't remember my login, and rejoined as a new member under another name. Then I finally remembered my login, and found my old account.

In the meantime, my little red car had a sudden loss of power last winter, that I suspected was the notorious burnt valve. I limped it home, and lurked here for a while tryng to find out what I was in for as far as repair. I pedal my bike to work most of the time, so I wasn't in a hurry to bust it open outside and in the cold.

I started watching craigslist for Metro parts, and a car came along that needed some electrical things, but supposedly ran OK, except for these wiring issues. I went to check it out, and it was buried in a snow bank, and the owner tried to jump it, but it wouldn't even try to crank over. I could tell that the battery was beyond dead, and at the very least it would need a new battery. The owner said she would give me a ride to buy a battery if I agreed to buy the car and get it out of there - she needed money to pay some bills.

I bought the battery, dug the car out of the snow, and it started right up, and I was able to drive it away for $200 plus the battery. Tires were near new on 13" wheels. G10, 5 speed, has been my main car ever since. It still has electrical issues that need to be addressed, but it's a dependable car otherwise.

A few weeks ago, as I was watching CL there was an ad for 2 parts cars for $500 for the pair. Both are beat up - one is rusted, the other is just dented - and both are XFIs. I bought them, and it cost me $100 to have them transported to my house, but they both run without smoking. They need some work to make them roadworthy, but they check out as verifiable XFIs - a '91 and a '93.

Then, again on CL, I found a '91 convertible LSI, with a new top, very little rust, and 80,000 original miles. $1500. It seems like a good deal to me, even though it costs more than my 4 other cars combined.

So, I'm back with a vengeance!
