Can you post a tutorial on this perhaps? I have been trying to find a way to mount a larger alt but never had anything promising. You have electrical load problems? lolI have 4350 watts of stereo in my Geo and I only have a second battery and stock alt. Yet I still sit at about 12.1v with everything on (high beams, heater, wipers, rear defrost, stereo @ max) I'm curious to hear about the issue have.

richard, be careful what you wish for. i'm a civil servant, what could be described as "working poor." my salary just barely covers living expenses for my family with no credit cards or car payments. my hobby is strictly pay as you go financed by horsetrading and parts sales.jake, i will take pics of my alternator upgrade once i get into the work. up to date, i have just collected the parts to do the mod. i just picked up a new red 91 vert yesterday and got it back to my driveway. the lttle stock 35 amp alternator on that car was locked up tight and had shredded the accessory belt so before i could even start it i had to put the battery on a charger while i swapped the alternator to a 55 amp unit. that was relatively easy to do with a normally aspirated 3 banger under the hood - all that open area to work in. the 105 amp alternator upgrade on my turbo3 will be harder with the bigger mpfi intake manifold and all the new hoses and wiring on that side. when i got about 3 miles away from the farm where i picked up the new vert, i was coming down a steep hill to the intersection where i would catch the interstate on-ramp when the juice brakes popped. i finished the next 67 miles on the interstate with only the emergency brake. after sitting for 3 years, the car ran fine. it just didn't stop so great. oh yeah, it rained like a cow pissing on a flat rock the whole time i was on the interstate and it was very dark. i won't get any work done on the turbo3 project today. i'll be bolting new brakes on the red car so i can finish the vert season with the top down. i'll get some pics of the parts i have for the 105 amp alternator mod and do a "how to" thread for you guys. it's really not all the hard if you know what to use and where to source the parts. |

Clamp your amps please and get back to me on actual power your running. I run an extra optima yellow. And with 1700watts it drops hard. You must mean maximum power not true power. |

i've been waiting for johnny mullet to open the stereo section. i run a 4 channel amp for my full range speakers and a bridged stereo amp for my subwoofer. they are old school competition amps, hart professional by kove, that are truly conservatively rated at 2000 watts rms at 14 volts. derated to 12 volts, they still put out 1800 watts rms in 5 channels. i don't play the system that loud for the most part because i find it hard to drive while getting kicked in the kidneys. ![]() i'm not that concerned with the stereo as an electrical load as much as i am all the other stuff i'm running. i have an electric circulation pump and radiator fan for the intercooler, the radiator fan for the engine, 3 hot coils, all the instrumentation, and the megasquirt engine controller. i'm adding 2 spal pwm fan controllers and more drivers for full sequential engine management so i'm definitely over the edge on my electrical load. |

By all means I respect old school amps because for the most part they put out rated power. Unlike these new mainstream amps that get people's hopes up with 5000 watts and blah blah blah. Most amps like that may put out 1000rms if Ur lucky. I feel bad for people because of false advertisement it's such bull. I'm not out to shatter anyone's hopes and dreams but to educate people as to what's really going on in the car audio/electronics world. There's a reason brands such as Rockford, alpine and kicker are so expensive "partially from the name yes" but it's because they do actual rated power. Sorry to interrupt progress of this thread t3, it's just things like this really throw a wrench in my gears. |

i hear you. because i was into the electrical engineering thing for most of my life, it really pisses me off that car audio manufacturers get away with making outlandish claims and inflating amplifier power output claims. i refer to those as being rated 'ils" (if lightning strikes.) when home audio manufacturers started doing that the federal trade commission stepped in and standardized the way power was rated for advertising. they never got around to lowering the boom on the car stereo guys. that's part of the reason i like the older amplifiers. it seems to me that they used to under rate power output so that they could squeak high current, high output amps into competition. these days they just flat out lie about power ratings.

I don't have a clamp but I did test it with my volt meter to check input voltage and output voltage of the amps(there stacked so both amps drive both subs) I know this method isn't completely accurate but it will get you close. When I have the stereo set to safe max (31 of 35 on the head units volume) my math figured ~1940rms so I my guess is between 1600-1700rms (at +/- 0.2vdc 12.14vdc) I also have a setting for between -8db and +8db for Bass, Mid and Treb, my settings are at -8 bass, +6 mid and +8 for treble. The amps I use will put out 1200rms\2000peak each, if you can maintain 14.4vdc. Possibly more if I could maintain 15.4vdc The other 350 is a small 2 channel that I used to power my mids. Okay t3ragtop, that makes sense, I didn't know you where running that much in addition to a stereo.

still pics. here's a top view. plenty of room there. pic from the bottom. plenty of room here, too. don't forget to upgrade the charging cable from the bigger alternator to the battery. i was out of 4 gauge cable so i made one using 2 8 gauge cables in parallel. i fused it for 100 amps, ran it directly to the battery positive post, and left the stock charging wire connecting the alternator to the fuse and relay rack to supply the original chassis harness. if you didn't catch it from the video, i used the stock 4 groove alternator sheave from the bosch/ nippon denso alternator on the delco-remy cs130 alternator. they don't make a 3 groove pulley that will work with this mod without machining. |

All I can say is WOW!! This needs to be put in the how to section and be Pinned! Will this bracket work the same on the g13 block? I sure hope so. I applaud you t3 |

the alternator bracket fits all of the suzuki g family engines (g10, g13, and g16) and the mod will work on all the metro/ swift cars, tracker/ sidekick/ x90, etc. the only thing that you have to work out is the pulley exchange for belt alignment. if you run a high power stereo, this upgrade is da' bomb.

I love your post on this. I just have one question. Is the mounting bracket from the 89-9 GM pickup or did you fabricate it? Thanks in advance Flea |
