Got 70 MPG?

I know you've upgraded your exhaust manifold studs, but have you considered bracing the turbo to the engine? It looks like the weight may stress the manifold or studs over time. A lot of factory turbo cars are braced like this.

it has a bracket from the turbo outlet pipe that bolts to the engine block with a short m10 bolt.

the bracket is fairly small but is pretty beefy. once things are bolted down there is no movement of the exhaust manifold at all.

The amount of thought and precision you have put into this project is impressive.

I like reading about it and seeing the purty pictures.

Keep it up!

thanks guys.

i do this stuff for relaxation and to keep a hand into engineering of some type. the pics and posts are purely for your entertainment. :P

here's a closer shot of the steady bracing for the turbo and exhaust manifold.

and here's a closer shot of the 2.4mm thick machined washers for the head stud pockets. those washers are designed to keep the flange nuts from smashing the holes around the studs. i made them thick so that they wouldn't deform, i cut the od so that they fit those recessed pockets that are under the valve cover. i'm going to run the factory designated torque of 54 ft lbs plus 10% which will make the final torque 59.4 ft lbs. that, along with the superior clamping force of the studs and the "no blow" head gasket, it should take care of any troubles caused by running increased boost pressures.

i know that the head is ugly. as soon as i save enough lunch money to send it to mike cove for some of his 3 tech performance love, it's taking a vacation in canada. ;)

Beautiful! You convinced me to paint my block before putting mine back together. I'm curious, what's the hotside inducer and exducer diameter on that turbo, + A/R of the turbine casing? Thanks
