Hey hey,

Just picked up a 2000 Chevy Metro as a DD. My current DD is a Mazda RX-7, so I'm looking forward to more than doubling my mileage(possibly tripling). :)

It's been in a front end collision and the airbags went off, so the steering wheel is covered in duct tape(definitely needs replaced). There are a couple creases in the upper radiator support but the hood and bumper have been replaced. A little ugly, but mechanically sound. The low beams don't work, but I'm not sure if it's the bulbs, or a nasty little electrical problem I read about a few minutes ago. I'm very familiar with shoddy wiring from my RX though. Seriously, relays are super cheap, why do the designers insist on passing full current through the cluster switches? I think I'm gonna have to add a tach somehow because not having one throws me off completely. I've gone from a giant tach in the middle of the cluster and an exhaust note that can be heard for blocks, to no real feedback at all. I'm afraid I'm gonna blow it up...

Hopefully I'll have her insured and on the road soon enough. I might post some pics later.

Don't worry, it's got a rev limiter. If it's a three cylinder, then it runs out of power long before it hits redline. Just shifting it in a sensible way will ensure that you never get to the limiter.

Welcome!

Welcome to the forum. I think the rev limiter is at about 7100rpm, or so. But our friend at 3Tech says they can be run up over 9000rpm

Good to know. I did notice it running out of steam right about the time I could start to hear the engine. Since I'm used to the rotary pulling all the way to (and past) redline, I was afraid I had overspun it.

I have also just discovered that the hatch lift struts are almost non-functional. Good thing the hatch isn't terribly heavy.

When I got my Rocket. The nitrogen struts clys did not work either. I went down and bought a new one. Now I only use just the one.

Finally got some pics. Nothing fancy.

Super racing plug wires for an extra bazillion HP. Missing the intake hat nut though.

The interior is pretty rough, being post-airbag-explosion and all.

The radio doesn't work and this whole center console part is about to fall out entirely.

Discovered an obvious problem under the dash. This blue wire has been cut, but I don't know what it goes to. Could it be related to the non-functional headlights?

Time to start browsing through the FSM and wiring diagrams.
