Hi all, :)

Thought I would just say hi and look forward to learning a lot from all of you here. We just purchased a 1991 Geo Metro for hubby to commute 65 miles a day. His truck is a gas hog! It has 89,980 miles on it, it's a 5 speed, new paint, new tires, new clutch, new seats, new carpet, fairly new brakes. The previous owner took out the back seats and put in a carpeted plywood floor. We like that for luggage, dogs, groceries, etc., so basically it's only a two seater. Only thing that is wrong with it so far as we know is that the A/C doesn't work, but we plan on getting it fixed. We soooooooooooooo look forward to saving on gas expense and driving this cute little car. :thumb

Sincerely,

Cisco

Welcome from a fellow CO resident. Nice looking car, you are fortunate to find one in such good condition, and they're outstanding for commuting duty.

:drivin Thanks for your welcome to this forum! It truly is a nice little car, it feels brand new, although we will discover all of it's quirks as time goes by. The previous owner said that he was getting 54 mpg hwy., hope he's true to his word. But even if were getting in the 40's mpg, that's better than 17mpg. :thumb

Good idea in a commuter car!

Mine had A/C that didn't work, so I pulled everything out. I live up in far northern Colorado (Nunn, Briggsdale area).

Welcome!

Welcome to the forum, Cisco :coffee
The PO's gas mpg is what those early model cars can get.
Nice looking car + good gas mileage + practical lay out inside = a keeper.
One nice feature about the early models is the back windows are vented.
The cabs stay cooler....and you can probably continue to get by without AC.

:) Hi Jittney, we do like the fact that the back windows are vented. That will have to do for now as we really can't afford to fix the A/C yet. Do you or does anyone know how much the a/c cuts down on gas mileage economy on a '91? Maybe I should ask this question under another thread, but I don't want to continue the topic, I am just curious..........

Bad Bent! Thanks! As far as the dash carpet, of what I can tell, it's the cheap grey lightweight carpet you can get at Home Depot. The previous owner did the whole floor, along with floor mats in the same stuff. It looks really nice. The dash carpet is not glued to the dash, but it is tacked down with double stick tape here and there, seems to have molded itself quite well to the contours of the dash. Re the gauges: Hubby would know more about that, but I do know that they aren't dummy's. They work........one is the RPM, one is the oil pressure and not sure what the third is without looking at it. When he drove it home, he did say they all worked pretty well, as far as he could tell. Time will tell, eh? :popcorn

The previous owner is a mechanic, and was his personal car. He bought a '94 metro and is rebuilding the engine in that one, so decided to let go of this one. He listed it at $2000.00 and paid $1650.00 for it. Is that expensive or did we get an okay deal? My husband can tinker with engines, but doesn't have the time to devote full time to a fixer-upper, so we decided on one that was up and running with lower miles and in fairly good shape cosmetically. :drivin

From the looks of it you did very well for $1650. :thumb

The previous owner (PO) being a mechanic... in your case it sounds like a good thing. It isn't always. The #3 gauge might be vacuum? But it looks very nice, you chose wisely. ^o)

Only bad thing on a Metro buy would be rust around the frame horns (and elsewhere) but mainly where the axles (half-shafts) go through the frame. We have some great threads on frame repair on the forum with lots of :popcorn :popcorn pictures.

Yup, you're right, the third one is a vaccum gauge.

DH looked under the car and he couldn't see any rust, but thanks for the heads up, maybe we can get our mechanic to put it up on a lift for us so we can really check things out under there. :-/ So glad we found this forum, there's a wealth of info here that I know we are going to use.

Thanks for the heads up and also for the nods on the price! Yay! :cheers
