Is this true the 1990-1994 geo metro xfi 2dr hatchback model got 53 city 58 highway. I have never had a geo, I have had a hybrid toyota prius and it did not get near that costing a fortune each time something went wrong. I have been looking at xfi geo's in Wisconsin, but haven't found one with a good frame to pimp out. They are ugly, but with those saving and cheap parts, i want to pimp one out with a tricked out paint job, customise the dash with a digital mpg average and instant per trip if that can be done, also customize tv and gps system into dash. So far I bought a convertible with an automatic, it gets decent, but now I want the xfi. I'M THINKING IF I SPENT A GRAND FOR THE CAR, $2,000 MAKING IT LOOK NICE, JUST SO YOUR NOT EMBARRASSED DRIVING IT. IT WOULD BE MONEY WELL INVESTED TO SAVE ME ON GAS. |

You had a Prius, and you want to not look "uncool" driving a car? Okay. |

Welcome Tad. I tell everybody my 94 XFI is my poor man's hybrid. Works for me. Gets a consistant 46-48 mpg in winter / 54-56 summer. Post some pics of your ride. We'd like to see it. |

its a rip off steve. thats whats wrong with it. its a $36,000 EXPENSIVE to maintain car that does not even get the same MPG's as a $8000-$8500 (when it was brand new) 20 year old car. or only 6mpg better than a $21,000 elantra. (all prices are WITH finance charges) as for 53 city 58 highway. YES its possible with a well maintained good condition XFI but "ONLY" with E0 gasoline. and even today's E0 gasoline has LESS ENERGY than E0 from 20 years ago so it would be harder today even with E0. I have an XFI (94) I average 54mpg in the summer (mixed driving) and 48mpg in the winter. this is on E10 but I have larger diameter tires which help and a low speed smooth commute which helps. I have seen highway (50mph) instant values over 70mpg consistently so in THEORY I could get over 60mpg on pure highway trips if I really tried hard. Edited by nerys, Jun 26 2011, 10:50 PM.

Welcome to the forum, tad ![]() XFis are not all that easy to find, because they are prized for their great gas mileage. If you find one....check the frame horns for rust.....especially in the rust belt. Keep us posted...and good luck.

Absolutely, an XFI CAN get that kind of mileage. Mine gave me 52 MPG in my normal city/highway mix for about 150K miles before it got tired and needed attention. 58 mpg on the only highway trip I ever did. I stress the word CAN because, if driven like an idiot, the exact same car might only get 40 mpg. The way you drive is far more critical than any other factor. |
