Oh, crud! I was hoping for an opera areia today. Well nuts, maybe in a few days then. Get well soon, Abe.

I am able to eat solid foods, although I need to chew my food very well before swallowing and eat small bites and drink my fluids through a straw since I can't move my head much right now.

Thank you all for your kind words. Here's what I look like right now (bandage still on). Tomorrow I get to remove my bandage and count my stitches since my surgical team didn't give me any specifics about how big the tumor was or how many stitches I got.

Dude, you look like one of those folks who talk through a hole in their neck. Just don't stick a cig in that hole, please. :stoner And what's up with you being 20 years old? I thought you were at least Bogs' age.

Looks like you are healing up nicely. I suspect within a few days everythings will be back to normal. Just don't rush the recovery time. Let mother nature take is course and you should be fine.

I have sleep apnea myself. When I was tested for sleep apnea, the test results revealed I had 800+ apneas a night. Thats 800 times a night not breathing. Snoring is a common symptom of sleep apnea. If I were not using a cpap machine I would probably be dead today. I know you have a mass in your throat but you may need to be on a cpap machine until your surgery. If you start having severe headaches in the morning its likely because your not getting enough oxygen when your sleeping and you should be on a cpap machine I would say. Something to talk about with your doctor. My neighbor told me the other day he uses this stuff you spray in your throat before bed time for snoring. He says it works for him. True or not I know not. I do know a cpap machine works to get you oxygen at night and cuts the snoring out.
CPAP machines are live-saving and life-changing devices. There are lots of people whose lives would be improved and lengthened if they knew they needed one, and then got one. Anyone whose breathing is interrupted by snoring probably needs one.

I don't smoke. I'm 25 actually. I'm not rushing anything. I had to have my wife help me lay down and get up from the bed last night because of how weak my neck is and the fact that I don't want to risk tearing open my stitches. I took my first shower since Friday morning before my surgery and I feel a lot better. Took the bandage off last night so I can now move my head a little more, but not much. The incision is only about 3" long, not sure how many stitches though since I have steristrips covering them. Here's what my throat looks like now (I'll be kind and just provide a link so those who don't want to look don't have to).

The thyroid is a pesky little sucker. My wife and her sister are both on medication for it. :banghead

Hey, it's "time out" and let yourself be sick and recover. :thumb

Kind of a badass place to have a scar.

Funny enough, I was actually hoping for a larger scar. I guess this means that I will have to have my future tattoo be larger than the scar itself. I just want to recover quickly so I can find a job and get my life straightened out financially again. On a related note, my wife is going into the recruiters offices tomorrow morning (hoping for the Army because of the enlistment bonus) to see if any of them will take her and ASAP! She needs the stability in her life and the military will help make her a better member of society like myself.

Found out earlier today that the tumor was Folicular Carcinoma. Translation, it was cancer. They removed my whole thyroid but I will be undergoing radioactive iodine treatment shortly to make sure they got all the thyroid and cancer cells.

Look on the positive side, Abe. At least it was in your neck, not your nether regions. THAT WOULD TRUELY BE A BUMMER.

Youth is on your side. Seriously, Mrs.dayle1960 has worked in the medical field and she was always amazed at how the young people survived the most devistating things. Broken backs, scrambled brains, cancer, etc. Your on the way to a great recuperation and if your age and positive outlook stay with you, I think you should be fine. Do not despair, for the rest of your life is going to be gravy after this.
