It took me MONTHS (4-6) of searching, but I finally found a 1990 4-door Metro 3/5 with A/C, as I was on this same quest. I paid through the nose for it, $1800 for the car and still not on the road due to issues. Had some perks though...brand new paint job, only 84K miles, updated front seats...once I get it going it will be very nice...with 50+ mpg. A rare combination for sure...only one I've ever come across personally. Converted to a 3.52:1 tranny and still runs great (around the hood).

Guess I didn't make this clear, when discussing the three - four choice, I was referring to the GEN3 (95-01) cars which are much heavier. GEN2 (89-94) Metros didn't get a four cylinder choice here in the states.

This guy put a 3 cylinder 5 speed into a '95+ sedan: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/54-2-after-lowering-car-4-mpg-gain-4589.html

I think if I were to do the same thing, I'd go with a 4.39 tranny.

Good bye

That was me, the car now has a stock cam and 4.10 gears. No a/c but that would work well in my opinion. My daughter and her family now have this car in eastern Washington state. It gets mid 40s without trying and unless you were on a steep hill you would never know it had only 3 cylinders.

I have a 1986 Chevy Sprint plus four door and the AC works. I guess they are pretty rare. Oh yeah, it has a 3 cylinder engine that runs real nice.
