Headlight problem

I have a 96 Geo Metro with a headlight problem.

After turning the car off, I came back and turned the headlight stalk 2 full turns which normally turns on the headlights. Instead, the dash and headlights went dark.

If I turn the headlight stalk switch only one click, the lowbeam lights will come on but the high beam switch will only work if you keep holding the lever back towards the steering wheel. As everyone knows, the high beam switch is turned on by pushing the stalk toward the windshield.

The tail lights work correctly.

Could there be a short in the headlight stalk switch?

Thanks

Could be a bad switch, could be the most common problem all Metros experience sooner or later:

Thanks Woodie!

I lowered the fusebox and had someone in front of the car tell me when the lights came on. I wiggled the high beam wire at the connector switch and the lights came on! I pulled the connector apart and found that the connector was slightly burnt (not as bad as Johnny Mullet's picture)

Thanks again!

Someone should keep a tally of how many Metro's this has happened to, and how many this forum has helped fix. :D I bet it's in the hundreds by now! :banana

I guess I better get busy. My headlights blink to black at 0 dark 30, but only for a split second a few times every morning. One of these days they won't come back on - should be fun trying to stop safely in the dark at 55 mph...I'll follow the Johnny repair link and see whatsa happenin'. later

I had this as something to fix when I bought the car almost 2 years ago. The last few mornings going to work in the dark it has blinked on and off. It seems to right back on, although I must admit (I thought I was seeing things at first). I first noticed it happen a week after upgrading from headlight buckets to the fancy I piece. I did splice the wires together with solder and heatshrunk it when completed. Are they pulling to much juice? Where to start? Oh and I have not looked at the fuse box under the dash where I had fixed it with a new connector. I will check today for burn marks and report back in the A.M.
