Portland OR mechanic; bottom and top end rebuild

HI,

I recently bought a 1992 Geo Metro and love the little car... However, its in some need of engine repair. I had it diagnosed at a shop and there is low compression in one cylinder and he told me that I need to replace and re-seat two valves. Since, my Geo would already be torn apart this far I was just going to replace the rings and rod bearings and do a complete rebuild on it, since it has 156k miles. I am capable of doing this myself but just do not have time. Therefor, I was hoping to find a Geo mechanic in the Portland OR area. I had one shop give me an estimate of 2400$ which I believe to be a little outrageous for a 3 cylinder 1L rebuild. Any information would be helpful... Thanks.

I do top and bottom including a redone head (with core exchange) for around $500 in labor + rings, head gasket set, oil, filters, etc. I am not in your area though :smackface

That's ridiculous! You can buy a new engine in a crate from the factory for that kid of money. It's a $6,000 car! Anything over $1,000 is robbery, they just don't want to be bothered.

That just about says it all, that is a ridiculous price to pay. For $2400 you could probably fly Jm in personally and fly him back AND pay his rate AND have money left over to have any and all welding needed done to it.

Good luck with your new car, welcome here :)

Welcome to the forum. We have a lot of friends in your area. Some in the Willamette valley area, and some over the river in Washinton. But someone will chime in. And doing this build is very easy. Its the easiest engine build I have ever done.
