Pulled the van and trailer up to the garage. They wont fit in since I have 2 cars basically exploded all over the place inside. So I got the doghouse off opened the hood and it started to rain... I gave up on it and started working on the Metro. I dug out a pair of CV axles so I could cut them both and give me a long enough axle to reach the passenger side. I have a piece of 1/4 inch thick pipe I can drill out to the right size to slip the axle halves in to make a longer one. So I started drilling it out and my drill press broke... I spent most of the day taking it apart and welding most of it together and fabricating a new shaft where the pulley setup on it stripped out and getting it to work good enough to last for a while. I finally got the pipe drilled out and ready to put the axles together and weld up solid. But it was already after 11 so I quit for the night ![]() So lots of messing around today but still no progress on getting anything actually done. Tomorrow I am going to work on the Astro even if I have to throw a tarp over it. I can bring the Metro as is without any problems but if the Astro isn't ready I won't be bringing the car so it seems smart to make sure it is ready as my #1 priority. The trailer just needs the brakes adjusted and a few bulbs replaced so it won't take much to have it in good shape. |

CV axles installed I managed to get the CV axles made up and installed today. I ended up using two axles on one side. I just stuck them both in one in the engine and one in the wheel then marked them in the center to know where to cut them both off at. I then used a 4 inch piece of 1/4 inch thick pipe that was drilled out to match the axles. I slid them in the sleeve and put it on the car to make sure it fit. Once it was fit in properly I welded it up solid. The rear suspension is complete. I need to go over it a bit and tighten everything down and get the toe adjusted a bit better but at least now it can sit on the wheels and roll without any trouble. |

I also have everything on the van done so it is ready to go. I just need to check the wheel bearings on the trailer and change out a few burned out bulbs and it is ready to go. I will do that tomorrow then I can spend the the last few days trying to get a few more things done on the car before geopalooza. If I can get the gear shifter, gas tank, and radiator mounted I think that is most of the large parts left to install so that will let everyone see what it is going to look like when complete. |

Is it the stock cruise control or aftermarket? I am interested either way, just wondering. Power was out most of the day today. Came back on around 10 tonight. So that makes it kind of hard to weld or do much of anything. So I got some looking around at the car done today is about it ![]() |

Shifter installed[/b] Got a working shifter setup installed in the car today. Since the front wheel drive setup had a shift rod running straight out the back it was not that hard to bend a section of pipe to go around the frame and run it forward instead. It works good the way it is. I need to run the brace rod back and mount it somewhere on the engine so the shifter moves back and forth with the engine like it does stock. I will do that after I mount the parking brake handle so I know where it needs to be to clear everything. But for now it shifts gears really well and is in a good position for the driver. |

Gas tank, floor, and radiator installed Today I worked on getting a few things mounted. I first made a few brackets to mount the gas tank in place. I had to raise it an inch and a half off the frame to clear the shifter rods. It will also need the extra clearance later for the parking brake cables. The tank has a set of straps that go over the top to hold it in place. The radiator was just a matter of bolting it in place since it was already made to fit the opening in the front. The car is pretty much as good as it is going to get for now. I will be loading it up tomorrow on the trailer and packing the van. Thursday evening I will be heading to Ohio with the car. I don't have much of an interior in it but I can stick the seats in there that way anyone that wants to see how well they fit in it can give it a shot. I will be at the campground Friday afternoon sometime after we get ecomudder finished and we will bring it to the campground as well. |

I haven't quit on the project yet. I have just been busy. Right now I am painting my Astro so hopefully next weekend it will be done and I can get back to working on the car. It has been sitting up in the air on the rack for the last few weeks waiting for me to get time to do something to it... |
