Well I have been thru many storms of many types but the one that had me the most concerned follows. Me and my dad were night fishing using yoyos and were about three miles down from the boatdock about 2 in the morning. Off in the distance far away we see lighting. Well we are catching fish to beat sixty! My dad says son we better pick these things up and head back, the storm is headed this way. Well I tell him, lets not, these fish are biting too good. The storm is going to go around I told him. Well sure enough it blows closer and closer to us and finally I tell my dad. Lets take these things up and head to the bank. Well it was entirely too late. We get all our lines up and start the three mile trip back to the boat dock. Here we are right out in the middle of open water at night in a alluminum boat and lighting and wind is all around. I thought sure we were going to be krispy kritters when our boat caught one of them lighting strikes above our heads! Very frighting situation. Now if dad says we better head back. Its head back we will do!

In 1999 hurricane Floyd came through.
We were living in an apartment complex here in the city.
Floyd passed just to our south, so we were in the north west and northeast quadrants, (worst and second worst), when the strongest winds came, it blew a branch across the transformer outside our window, which promptly blew up and scared the sh-t out of Barb and the kids.

In 2003 Hurricane Isabel came through just to our north and even though we were in the weakest winds, it took out power in our neighborhood for 8 days. I ran the Geo continuously with a power inverter hooked up to provide power to the house. Easiest refueling of a generator ever.

On a ship returning from Japan via the "Great Northern Route". Three typhoons converged on us near the Gulf of Alaska. The ship was a large one with the pilot house about 70 feet above water level. We were taking green water waves above the pilot house. Lots more to the story but thats the basics...........
Wow- the perfect storm, for the navy. Those vessels are huge, and I bet you were tossed around like a cork on the ocean. Would love to hear more details.

I heard about those storms. Thanks for sharing your firsthand experience.

This will seem lame in comparison, but I was there when we recieved a hundred inches of snow in less than 24 hours. The only road out of the mountains was closed due to a slide-off, and we sat in our car idling for a few hours waitin to be let down the mountain.

Topic #2 What is the most incredible weather event you've ever been through in your life?

for me? Lightening storm when I had no cover. Way scary
One time there was a big storm at the lake cabin and it washed out the dock and boat, and we were in the lake trying to secure them during the middle of the storm, tons of lightning going on. Was pretty scarey especially since I was young and overestimated the danger of being in water during a lightning storm lol.

I have lived in varrious locations and have seen all types of weather.

In Louisianna I've been thru 2 cat 3 hurricanes and Hurricane Andrew (cat 4)
And from them came flooding, where we lived it would flood the streets and aome of our front yard but never came into the house
Also bout 20 yards in front of our house lightnig struck and messed with a few electronic devices and rattled. The hell out of the front windows

Over in Alabama where that space camp is our family witnessed a tornado (we where camping... the popup took no dammage but we where with out power for a coupple days)

And finally here in V.A I've been through 2 "Blizzards" where the sky dumped about 3-6 foot of snow out of the sky.

Cool stuff yo!!!
I remember the 'Blizzard' of 96 that came through central Virginia very well. Is that the one you are referring to, Potter? I also have seen the lightening and snow that 'Old Man mentioned. But the harshest thunder storm I have ever seen was when TS Isabel came through central VA back in 2004. maybe 2003? Can't remember exactly. I can't imagine TS Camille was much worse back in 1969 when she came through Nelson County. Fortunately, since I have moved to Florida I have not seen any wacky weather. I have no desire to see a hurricane. I'm sure if I stay down here long enough, I will.

As far as TV grand finales are concerned, MASH: Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen was definitely in my top ten.

Why you Mutt!

I live in the SoCal desert...mostly we have incredibly beautiful weather here...although sometimes we do get so much rain that you actually have to wash the car afterwards...makes spots on the windows. Sometimes it gets so cold here that it actually gets down to freezing...a couple weeks ago we had temperatures up in the 100s, and humidity was almost 25%!

I think the most incredible weather I ever heard about from anyone in my family...(I was not yet alive at the time) actual SNOW in Los Angeles in 1949. Musta had a couple inches...

which month of the year do you think would best describe your personality?

for me, I would have to say September.
Still warm, with cool nights, wonderful sunsets, a little bit of nip in the air in the mornings. I would say my personality is definitely September in the desert

Topic #4- chime in here- there should be lots of interesting imput.
If you could swallow a pill that would stop anything of your choice from happening to you again- anything except keeping you from getting sick,- what would the pill permanently end?

For me- I would gladly take a pill to end having to shave.
Your turns

Got in a thundersnow storm crossing the mountains from Harrisonburg, VA into WV. Craziest thing I've ever seen. Started raining at the mountain base, as I climbed, it started sleeting, then turned to snow. When I got to the top it was snowing it's butt off, plus thundering & lightening all around.
I used to cross that mountain to go to work everyday highway 33 Shenandoah mtn. virtually my back yard :D
