Hello Metro Lovers,

Assembled and ready to go for tomorrow morning (obligatory suggestive Geo Metro in the background). :)

Posted Image

Where to?

Posted Image

Nearly 340 miles which must be covered in four days @ 85 miles a day (or at least that's the goal). Why?

Posted Image

To pick up this '92 Geo Metro from Larry. :)

I could've just bought a flight ticket to get there; pay up $70 and be done with it, right? No, that's not the point. This is an opportunity to get in shape and take a moment to enjoy life in a unique experience. Besides, I'm training for my ultimate cycling tour @ Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Egypt which is happening beginning of October. :)

If I die, I just want to say thanks to all of you for your help and support. May you all be rewarded (Karma? God-given? Luck?) for your generosity.

Cheers,
Jeffrey

Your going to Egypt to bicycle? Uh, buddy, have you seen the way those guys dislike Americans lately? Might be wise to stay at home and pedal around the lower 48.

Um, yiffzer, that is a pretty ambitious trip on a bike, have you ever biked a similar distance? If you insist on doing it all I can say is good luck, I have done it before and am not sure I would try it again myself, certainly not in the shape I'm in currently.

Can't wait to hear your experience when you're done! I've only done a couple of centuries, spread a year apart. I'm lucky to get 85 miles in a week let alone each day 4 days in a row.

It must be a lot cooler there than it is here! Safe travels to you.

Wow!
I just caught this thread. Good luck Yiffzer. I'll give you a tour of the area when you get here. Hopefully you'll try to communicate along the way. Not sure if you brought a laptop with you or not. If you get this feel free to contact me if you run out of steam along the way. I could always pick you up with the truck.
Regards,
Larry

It depends how far it is... the truck makes it easy - and I'd hate to mess up my new interior!
You're right though, I'd probably use the TDI. I'm a little worried about the weather. They're forecasting rain for the next few days.

Good luck. I may have done it when I was young. Now I don't even bike to work. And that is only 1/2 mile.

Good luck on the tour! :thumb

You seem to know what you are capable of. I know touring is certainly different than any training you do, expecially riding for 6-8 hours a day.

My first ride out of town I was thinking I might die. I was in Jr. High School. Really enjoyed the Friday night dance at sxhool thinking I might die. Over 40 years ago and a lot of riding has gone on since. :lol

It'll work: Yes, you will feel it but it's doable especially if you have been logging some miles ahead of time. If it's a cold turkey ride - well there will be a price to pay... Good Luck!

Hey guys! Thanks for all the wishes. Here is my progress so far. Click in order so you can see my actual paths and what grades I've been forced to conquer.

[LINKS ARE NOT WORKING?!]

In summary, I have gone a little over 210 miles in the past four days. I definitely did overestimate my ability to go far, especially when it is my first time! The shortest distance I went was 43 miles due to a lot of rain and fighting so many hills. The longest distance I went was today at 74 miles thanks to the great weather and patience. I think I'll take one day off because right now, my legs are literally not friends with me. I have another two or three days to cover 130 remaining miles 'til I get to Larry's place at Rockport, MA.
