Its easy to make a vacuum forming machine. The hard part is gettingt he plastic to work with. Make or Car Craft had a how to on how to make one.

Johnny Mullett had them and said they didnt work except for clearing the rear winder. I think the need to placed in teh exact spot that the air or boundary layer starts to seperate from the vehicle.

So, let me update this with a few pictures.

Here is the arrangement of the tabs. In moving them I kept the original angles, pretty much.

Pretty close to a side view...

A thumbnail of them, at an angle.

I did do the tuft testing, Wanna Beco, which is why I moved them forward, closer to where the roof breaks and begins sloping toward the hatch. I have not taken the time to repeat the test. My mpg has been stable at 55 mpg for the summer. I believe lowering the back of the car may have gotten me 1 mpg but I only filled one tank.

Thanks for the pics BB. Wonder if you could make them yourself? Looks like the profile of a shark's dorsel fin. Hmmmm.

How wide would you say they are? Do you think the width makes a difference or is the angle of attack the thing that creates the swirl effect.

Hmmmm, shark fin. I might experiment. Hmmmm

I had them on my 98 but did not notice any increase in fuel economy. My rear window stayed cleaner though!
