92 xFi with 70k (though I'd have to see the condition to believe that) and she wants 1500 firm for it. Is it worth it? I'd have to get rid of my 2000 3/5 hatch to do it and I'm not sure it's a good enough buy.

I think the 92's had a 5 digit odometer. :hmm Could very well be 170k.

$1500 seems a little high. But a rust free car, claims to have passed emissions, and some new parts. :hmm

Seeing the intake, I wonder what else has been tinkered with? :gamerz

Start it up, listen good, take it for a spin, test compression, and make an offer. Bring cash. All they can say is no. :cheers

Yeah, I also suspect it's 170k...and looks like there's a custom exhaust on it as well. I'll let it sit for a few days and give her a call. Thanks.

ROFL, she thinks it's fast. Then again, she was dumb enough to put on an air filter on top of the air filter (causing a restriction) and to put a fart can on the exhaust. Ignoring the ricer BS, I think it's worth the 1500 provided it still has the original cam and trans. I'd pull a carfax report on it to see what the reported mileages are. It's very possible that it has 70k on it, but most likely it has 170k or 270k on it. Definitely do a compression check on it, check the VIN to see it has the propper markings, and do the roll test to see if it has the xfi trans in it.

Well. I called and she hasn't called back. I'm assuming it's sold.

Honestabe, maybe it's a magical fart can and air intake that makes the driver believe their car is going twice the speed it actually is.

Uhh, so he finally called back. No way is this actually a 70k car. I asked if he had a carfax and he said he couldn't get one "because the vin is kind of scratched off." What?

He brought it down to 1250 if I'm interested. He says the engine was recently rebuilt, but he can't tell me anything about the rebuild because it was before he got it. For my money I'd rather stick with my 2000 than go with a question mark like this one to get an extra 10 MPG.

But hey, if anyone in SoCal wants a (probably) 170k xFi, here it is. I wouldn't be surprised if you could negotiate it down to 1100.

LOL. The VIN is "kinda scratched off" means it's probably stolen. There are multiple VIN's on the car, you just gotta know where to look. As for the engine rebuild, 100:1 says it either hasn't been rebuilt or was done wrong.

Why you Mutt!

The VIN is also stamped on the firewall, and should be on the registration...he HAS a registration, doesn't he?...oh, wait! Of course he has the registration...the car was just SMOGGED! If it was smogged at a legit place, that is....

Kelly Blue Book is $2600...that is for a car bought from a dealer, w/70k actual (or rolled back) miles, and in spotless condition (right side looks a little wrinkled to me). Private party in fair condition is $1300, so the $1250 is actually in the ballpark.

I think the reason the VIN scratching comment is that the car is almost certainly at 170k and he'd rather not Carfax it.

I agree the price is in the ballpark, but still a questionable car.

Walk away. :oshit

They're hiding something. Probably not titled in the current owners name either. Sounds like "flippers" to me. :hmm

I've had to walk away from three beautiful Metros, by Minnesota standards, due to "red flags". "Girl friend has title" or "Been driving it for the last two months and never transferred the title" or "I should have the title soon" :smackface

Time to move on and keep shopping. :news

It's fast because someone bolted on a fart can and the "ram air" filter. :nfs :doper
