Run the starter if the drive passes enginedoctorgeo's test. That is just a cover for the snap ring that limits the drive and armature movement. Flywheels fail from the massive torque of the raging 1.0. LOL |

Yeah, especially the first time...I was supposed to be best man at a friend's wedding...he lived 150 miles away and the starter chose that time to die. This was the first time I replaced the Chevette's starter, and didn't have the procedure down pat yet. Took many hours. Then the replacement was bad. I didn't make the wedding. |

OK...I have the geo put back together ... FINALLY!!! ... but the problem is it is running very rough... It ran real good before but now it won't idle...If I keep my foot on the gas and hold it to about 2500 rpm's (total guess I have no tach) it seems to smooth out and run ok...When I let go of the pedal it starts idling very rough then dies....The book had a section about flywheel balancing...could an out of balance flywheel cause this or should I start looking into something else? ... I'm at a loss...I have connected everything and all the fluids are good... The Geo ran good before the flywheel incident....Any Ideas would be appreciated....Thanks...Max |

WOW!!! the problem was a small bolt lodged under the number 2 intake valve ... I checked compression and it showed no compression on number 2 cylinder.....I took off the head expecting a broke valve or a busted piston or something but no...It was only a little bolt that must and been in there from the previous owner...I never took anything apart that could have allowed a bolt to fall in there.....Anyway I cleaned everything up and will buy gaskets tomorrow and try again.... |

Goodness. What a find in the cylinder. I wonder if it fell through the TB and was blown into the intake manifold. Hmmm, consider youself one lucky fellow that it didn't do any damage to the valves. Hope it starts to work for you soon. |

I've got everything back together and it's running but there is a terrible oil leak now...I can't tell exactly where it's coming from but it appears to be where the engine and transmission connect...I assume it has to do with the rear main seal but I don't want to remove the transmission until I am sure....Any Ideas? |

That oil leak is possibly the distributor o-ring. A simple procedure to mark the dist. location, remove the cap and then remove the two bolts holding the dist. in place. It pulls out and there is an o-ring about midway on the dist. shaft. the dist. has an offset key on the camshaft end when you gently reinstall the dist. Here is a link to an o-ring topic: http://geometroforum.com/topic/3207197/1/?x=25 Clean the area and drive it a little. Make sure you know where the leak is before pulling it apart, assuming liquid flows down hill unless under pressure. Is the small bolt something that could have fallen down the spark plug hole?

Thanks I will check that out. What is the best way to determine if the leak is coming from the rear main seal...The reason I am concerned is I replaced it while everything was apart and the leak seams to be coming from between the engine and transmission...I plan to remove the flywheel cover plate to see if the leak is in there....Is there any other place to check? Could I have gotton a faulty seal? maybe I put it on wrong...not sure.... I'll keep looking and post tomorrow....Thanks for the help..I really hope I don't have to drop that transmission again.... I was hoping to be driving my Geo this week.... |

The small bolt must have been there from some previous work by someone before me....It was under the intake valve keeping it from closing...It runs good now just leaking oil under the car...It's more than can be tolerated so it may have to come apart again..... |
