Hi guys. Need some imput here. I have 2 metros. Both are 2 door hatchbacks, stickshifts, 3 cylinder, and both in excellent condition. I have had the 1990 for about a year. Love the car! Reminds me of my bugeyed sprite back in the 70's. Fun car to drive and gets excellent gas milage. I just got my 1996 Geo Metro about a month ago. It is also a 2 door hatchback. It has a burned valve in number 3 cylinder and as I type the car's head is being rebuilt and I will have the car back on friday. It is also in excellent condition and a bit more refined than the 1990. Will the 1996 Metro get as good gas milage as my 1990. It is also a 5 speed and with a rebuilt trans. I plan on keeping one for many years and my belief is that in 5 years our gas price will be up to $6 a gallon the way things are going. My wife says one must go A lot of you have had different years of Metros, so which one will be easier to keep up, get better gas milage, in other words which one would you keep. The 1996 has 14 inch mags and tires on it. The door sticker said it came with 13 inch rims and tires. Appreciate any help here

I prefer the older models myself, but that decision should be left up to you. |

I would take the 14 inch tires off of the 96 and put them on the 90. Then put the wife in the 96 and sell the 96 |

Does your 90 currently have 13's on it? I'd put the 14's on the 90 and sell it and put 13's on the 96 and keep it (better mileage with 13's than 14's). Both will get about the same mileage, although the 90 is a bit lighter so it will be a little better on gas. Having owned a 94 and currently owning a 95 (both 2-door 3/5's) I would say the 95+ is the better car. It's safer, has dual airbags, more comfortable, has more interior space (especially if you're over 6' like I am), handles better, looks better, doesn't feel really cheap, and is more refined. |

Keep the 96. Put the 90 out behind the house until gas hits six bucks the the wife will beg you you let her drive it. Women. Wives just don't understand the relevance of a 50mpg car in this era. My wife wants to sell the metro I bought for her! All because she stalled it on the road and now doesn't trust it. Keep both cars and tell your wife to enjoy the decision you made for yourselves. |

She stalled it and doesn't trust it now??? Soo she can't drive a stick in the easiest car to drive then correct? Install a tach Dayle so she can see her RPM's, problem solved. |

I like the OBDII and airbags of the '96. Now if the '90 was an Xfi, the choice would be a no-brainer! |

Unless you need the money, your wife needs to understand the value of such a commodity. I agree with above.....when gas spikes even more she'll be begging to get it back! But if you must, keep the 90! |

It's an automatic. She stalled it and got pissy with me! ARHG!! I work my fingers to the bone to get that car running correctly and she stalls it once on the highway and wiggs out. |

Always a no-brainer when an XFi is in the equation.

Personally I'd stick with the 90. The gas mileage is practically identical. The newer one weighs more, but it has an egr valve to even the mileage back out. |

Keep the '90. Give her the '96. OR Give her the '90, keep the '96. UNLESS...she has a job and buys her own gas. Then I'd keep the '96 and let her drive what she pleases, and let her live with the consequences. |
