Sometimes you can get lucky and be able to rent a textbook. I've done this a few times and I've saved a few hundred bucks. Always do a search online for the best deals on your text books. There are a couple search engines that will compare the prices of the desired textbook and show you 40+ price options. |

Food banks---around here there is a county food bank that distributs food on Tuesdays, and there is a religious food bank that distributs food on Thursdays, Between the two you can almost eat for free. (If you are not too proud to go there) Can you qualify for food stamps? Have you checked the requirements as compared to your income. Around here a single adult can have an income of up to $19,000 and get some food stamps. At the same time check to see if you are eligible for help with your utilities. Are you eligible for section 8 housing? Even if they would only pay 10% of your rent it would help. |

Well, I'd rather leave that to people that are less fortunate to me. I could easily qualify for food stamps, but im not gonna try and get those unless I'm very desperate. I'm not trying to rely on the government at all for any help other than just college help. I've never really had to fall back on anyone when it comes to money/paying for things and I'd like to keep it that way. IMO we as a society have a problem with buying too much, and less of a problem with the amount of money we make (hopefully that doesn't start an argument) Just saw where I will be getting my last semester of my G.I. bill and my guard grant has gone through! (usually that takes a while) |

When I was in community college I was able to get into a program called "TRIO". It is for low-income students who need help in finding college resources, including books. Many of the books I needed for class were available as loaners, no cost to me. I just had to return the book by the end of the term (or semester depending on where you are). One of my favorite meals is a bag or two of Top Ramen with a can of boneless chicken mixed in. Don't use the flavor packet that comes with the Top Ramen, it will save you on taking in so much sodium. The canned chicken comes with its own sodium and natural flavors. |

Getting through school is more of a priority than were you get current aid from. Do what it takes to finish your degree. My old college counselor used to say that it's better to get through school with all the loans you can get by with (don't crazy on it). It saves you from having to work part/full time that distracts you from studying. If it helps, when you get your career going, give back to the community that helped you. Pay it back, you know? Good thing for the G.I. bill and other grants you can get. Good luck. |

Well I'm definitely getting my degree, nothing will stop me there. That Trio program sounds awesome. I'm sure with taking finance classes my teachers will be able to either hook us up, or lead me in the right direction. |

I would MUCH rather see my tax dollars go to people like you than the ones who make a living generation after generation on my dime. |

Sounds like you've got things pretty well figured out. One thing If the class has a lot of readings, I would buy the textbook somewhere else. Some of my classes I only use the textbook for the problems in it, so a digital version works just fine. I also have a magic jack, in addition to my cell. I use it to cut down my cell usage and for the unlimited long distance. Just be aware that your computer needs to be on for it to work. I keep my computer on all the time, but it works because our hydro is included in the rent. It might not work for you. |

I wish you the best of luck, horn! I have to get my act together for school and go and at least get a bachelors in something...my parents would kill me if I didn't. Luckily for me they will pay for me to go...but I just know school isn't for me. :/ |
