I have a 92 Auto and there is a plunger type button or something on the back of my gear selector. I can pull it out but nothing happends when I do this. It seem like it would be a choke but my car doesn't have a carb. I have no idea what the hell that thing is. Hatch release? |

That's the self destruct button. Only use it if a group of Klingons board your Metro and you have no choice but to blow it up in order to escape, killing the Klingons in the process. Its all in the owners manual. |

Got 70 MPG?

Save the metro by planning ahead and keeping a roll of toilet paper in the car to take care of those pesky Klingons.

I have a feeling i know what it is he is talking about, thats a lock release for the shifter selector, if you pull that you can shift into gear, or N while there is no key in the car. |

Isn't it in theory supposed to actually be a shift release? A lot of cars have little slots to jam something into, to unlock the shifter. |

Nice, I had my reply open for a minute doing other things. Glad I wasn't the first person who couldn't use humor!

It's the magic button. You wish to go somewhere, you press it and "poof" you are teleported to that exact location. Be careful what you wish for! All kidding aside, it actually is the manual over ride for the locking solenoid. You pull the button, and you can shift out of Park. Very useful if the ignition lock breaks after you shut off the engine while waiting in line at McDonalds! (This happened to me once in my Eldorado...was stuck in line until Auto Club got there!) |
