I have a lead on 5spd, 4cyl 4dr LSi that is advertised with incredibly low mileage. Want to get the same car (with airbags) that delivered me and my daughter safely through a head on collision with Dodge dually flat bed. The seller seems to wheel & deal these vehicles, and he said he had to replace the transmission in this one. 51,000 miles seems pretty low for the tranny having gone bad. Any suggestions on what to look for? Any key clues that the odometer may have been tampered or the instrument cluster replaced? Any advice on running the VIN? I've never done that before. Thanks- Jake |

What year is it? 1993 and after have 6 digits on the odometer. Also, the transmission should be a 3.79. If he put in the wrong transmission, it will be like riding a 10 speed bicycle in 1st gear. It's possible to check this by pulling the transmission fill plug and counting the teeth on the ring gear. I can't remember the numbers. Someone will chime in. |

If the mileage is that low, seems the owner would be eager to prove it with backup paperwork of oil changes listing mileages...etc. The 'wheeler dealer' would be savvy enough to get that from the owner.....or else I'd suspect someone is not telling the truth. |

well this is easy. ASSUME it has 151,000 is the price still good? is the condition still good? do you like it? if yes buy it. I always put 300,000 to 500,000 miles on my vehicles so I really don't care about mileage all that much :-) |

look closely at the pedals and the steering wheel. Look at the groves in it and such. 51k should have new looking pedals... barely worn. Compare to all the other cars you have access to with known mileage. |
