My mechanic bro-in-law was replacing the CV axles in my 94 2D HB and the ones he ordered didn't fit. Turns out my Metro is a Canadian model. What are the other differences between US and Canadian models?

Turbo3 and Twincam Tweaker

and it's "you're canadienne, not you are? :P

north american market geo metros were assembled at the cami plant in ottawa but there were some differences in the us market cars from the canadian market cars that showed up in the early 90s. canadian market cars had the front seat belts mounted to the b pillar behind the doors, the us market required an active restraint system so they mounted the front seat belts on the doors.

all the verts have a j in their vin and a door sill plate that states they were built in japan. they escaped the dread door mounted seat belts because they were required to have a driver's side mounted air bag which qualified as an active restraint system.

there shouldn't be any difference in the axles between a canadian market and us market metro. there's a difference between manual transmission and automatics, 3 or 4 cylinders (and the us market metros didn't get 4 cylinders until the late 95 or 96 model year.) the only other axle difference is the north american market swift gt which only fits those twincam cars due to a difference in the front hubs.

So, What You Guys are Saying is That if Your 1st Digit in Your VIN is "J", Yours is From Japan, Not Ingersoll Ontario, Right? Wow!! My '90 4Dr is From Japan, After All. All This Time, I Thought My Car Was Built in Ingersoll. My VIN is JG1MR646XLK757949.

Production of Metro's in the Ingersoll plant did not begin until 1994. There is no plant in Ottawa. Richard, you should know better :rasp

Every time I get front brake pads from NAPA or O'rielleys they need to know if it is US or Canadian.

People right here in my country has very limited knowledge about cars and where they are made at.

All cars sold from local dealers have their odometers counting in kilometers, so when the "shop/junkyard man" see a car with miles on it... they know it has not been purchased here and automatically said: "-Oh ok, you need a part for a north-american version" (from all imported cars here, 90% come second hand from US) indifferently if it's from Canada or US.

My ex-girlfriend's Metro is Canadian (rear wiper and "soapy-washer" version (can't recall the real name :P ) ) so disregarding Canadian or US version... I haven't had any problem when buying parts.
Of course like it was mentioned already... only if that is 3 or 4 banger, sometimes if it is MT or AT tranny.

:cheers

That means you should have those cool aero headlights and a slightly nicer interior...at least that's what I've seen in the junkyards for the Japanese Metros...
