HP is getting out of the tablet market, so this is an orphaned product line. Keep that in mind if you are considering one |

I saw this very early yesterday morning - had one in my cart from some online place (I forget) but after CA sales tax, shipping fee and CA environmental fee I said forget it. Watched several times yesterday the SD post count go through the roof. Saw bestbuy have them on sale this morning, still held off. After seeing Amazon selling them, figure it would be a fun toy for $113 (16GB with tax and shipping). Hope I'm right. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to find out my order gets cancelled as they sold out. Edited by JellyBeanDriver, Aug 21 2011, 05:49 PM.

Just ordered one. will see what happens. Only reason I ordered is that its essentially an IPAD (display wise) without the ilk of apple smelling it up :-) hehe Will hang onto it in hopes of a droid rom :-) then it will get REALLY fun. I hope it has GPS and what not. it does appear to have at least a front facing camera. man I wish I could order 3 or 4 (been looking for a nice cheap way to have video calls $99 is a VERY sweet spot for such a capacity) |

quite true. However HP is still offering a 1 year warranty for the Touchpads. At this price and feature set though, I'm happy even if I have to build a replacement battery pack for the thing! I wouldn't dare do such a thing for an iPad - too expensive a device. With something like this though I can be a little more "daring"

They are sold out anyway ... Remember this is a dropped product. You wont get updates, upgrades, or anything new on it. In a year it will be just as good as a paperweight ... I'm buying a BB Playbook. Not as nice as the Xoom or Galaxy 10.1 but it has what I want and is the cheapest right now. |

Sold out? They appear to still be in stock (at least as of now) To each their own - that's the beauty of the market I plan on wiping webOS and installing Linux, BSD or Android on it anyhow once the drivers have been written for it by the huge influx of garage developers who will be writing code for it. WebOS takes care of "the bare basics" of web/ebooks/etc. Because of this very sale there's probably going to be a huge number of new apps that will be written for it. "The community" will be taking care of the users for this one - much like this forum takes care of its own looong after Chevy/Suzuki left the Geo/Swift in the dust. But, if you're looking for solid manufacturer support for the next couple years (like Apple, etc.) it's definitely not what you want. Edited by maxmpg, Aug 21 2011, 06:41 PM.

The current project is to get 2.3 gingerbread going. there are "mussings" of Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich being ported down the line. once we have android on this think you just scored a $400-$500 android tab for $99 NOT freaking bad. even as is would make a fine netflix/ebook/pdf/web tablet for as long as the battery holds out or as long as you willing to make new batteries for. NOT bad for $99. |

Looks like I got lucky. They took my money and I did not get a rejection notice yet :-) I got it from "onsale" on amazon.com. I called some 15 numbers for local places before I gave up and ordered it online. I hope they made an asston of these. if they made enough of them the homebrew market will stay "interested" in them. IE just long enough I hope to get android going cleanly. |

If you're into hacking these things and replacing the OS, then it'll be good for quite a while. For example, I still run an Asus Eee 701 (the original 7" screen model, 4 GB SSD). While the Xandros OS is defunct, it's alive and well running Pupeee Linux. |
