So IF we drive as much as you do (most people drive half that much)

And IF the car cost $20K (most cost twice that much)

And IF the battery lasts 200K miles (they don't, 120 to 130K is more like it)

Then it makes good financial sense. Yet another well reasoned argument from Nerys.

Nerys post was actually a very good argument from my view. Specific instances of where an electric car would shine, thus showing that it doesn't shine the way it is now. I don't see any problems with that argument.

I can just as easily say: IF they started selling Metro XFIs for $10K tomorrow, and IF gas cost $2 a gallon as it should, the Metro can EASILY beat anything else. Completely meaningless, because none of those things is going to happen.

IF we had transporters as in Star Trek, this entire conversation would be moot.

Grr

Well they CAN'T sell metro's for $10k and Gas for $2

but they CAN force auto makers to make these electrics using EXISTING off the shelf technology.

There are technological and regulatory reasons why making $10k metros and $2 gas would be hard.

There is NONE for why we are not making the electrics. thats my point.

If ENOUGH of us make this known maybe just maybe we can do something about it.

They do not want electrics (good electrics) for the same reasons they refuse to make metro's.

They do NOT WANT cheap affordable low cost to repair low cost to operate long lasting cars on the road. They are NOT as profitable.

Early warning, guys. I suggest you make your final statements and put it to bed.

For anybody who's wondering, this has already been discussed at length. http://geometroforum.com/topic/2325604/

Completely true. I say we abandon all this talk of electric vs gas, and we fight the big issue. Where are our instant transporters? The government has the technology, they use it to steal socks and loose change from me. So why can't we have this? Too cheap maybe? Oil industry keeping it down? I think it's even farther than that though. it's the insurance companies keeping it down! You can bet as soon as there are regulations forcing you to have minimum coverage for freak fly accidents, then the transporters will come out.

You forgot taxes, insurance, repairs, interest on the loan, depreciation, loss of stock market gains due to "investing" in a car, etc. All would be MUCH more for a $40,000 electric. I'll stick with my Metro...
