This thread kind of goes alonw with the help me save money thread.

anyways just moved to my apartment and if I put my laptop towards the window I can get wifi internet from the school. So far all my usual website arent blocked.
My connection isn't the greatest but It is free (technically with all the bs fees its not). So what do I do to pick up a better signal? I've heard of using a different type of router. any special types of devices?

You can get small antennas for the laptop that help it pick up wifi a little farther. Check online, I'm sure there's a way to use a spoon and tinfoil or something to help it.

You can turn almost any wireless router into a repeater. Find the cheapest wireless router that is compatable with the linux firmware, flash the router & set it up next to that window. I did this for 2 years without a problem. All you're doing is taking the schools signal & repeating it, making the signal stronger & closer to where you currently are.

I found a seller on ebay that sells the cantenna and USB wireless adapter as a kit HERE.

Just a usb adapter on a longer cord will help. Mine "onboard" wifi on my desktop sees 4 wireless sources around me. My USB adapter hanging on my window sees 10.

You could always...
