Felt it here in Extreme eastern PA (right across from trenton) it was strange. things started to "wiggle" not shake. felt like a truck going by or when someone drops something heavy and the floor "wiggles" a bit but it was EVERYTHING wiggling (just a tiny bit) and it lasted some 10-15 seconds maybe a hair more. maybe over 20 seconds. I ignored it at first and then when I realized it was not stopping I was like what the hell?? Looked out the window went into the hallway then someone else came out and said what the heck is that ?? then it stopped. Strange :-) never felt an earthquake before. |

I don't want to sound ho-hum about it, but by California standards, that was a baby. If it were a fish, I'd throw it back! Let me know when you ride a 7.0 of better :-) Seriously though, I hope no one was injured, those things can scare the heck out of you, even if they don't do much physical damage. I've had books fall on me, the plaster crack, but fortunately never been closer than 15 miles from an epicenter. |

I live in Florida, and beyond that I have a large, empty creek behind my house, down in a bit of a bowl, and lots of trees nearby. So nothing bothers me here. No earthquakes obviously, but not even hurricanes do anything to my place. |

Earthquake? Give it about 5 days and Irene the hurricane will be knocking on your doorstep. Sorry. I'm surprised someone didn't think it was aliens like in Independence Day.

Yeah Nerys we've felt a few here in Harrisburg the last couple of years. Today was exactly as you stated a wiggle more than a shake feeling for about 20 seconds. Everyone was saying what is that. I told them an earthquake. Nobody believed me for about 30 mins when our "FIRE GUY" got it on his scanner. I googled it right away. 5.8 in VA. Get this though on the list was a place in CO called cokesville. It had about 8 over 3.5 in the last 48 hours. Crazy...c'mon on Irene. |

you guys out on the left coast are sitting right on the san andreas fault line, the east coast is much more geologically stable. it's pretty uncommon for the eastern seaboard to get an earthquake at all. that and the epicenter was only 3 miles deep. it sounds more like the government's using nukes to excavate for a new underground base than a real earthquake.
